Holiday Blues

Post by moi621 (imported) »

I believe in Holiday Blues.

I accept them and try to infect others with it.

Now, I wonder - is it a hours of day light thing?

Seasonal Affective Disorder?

How about it Australia and New Zealand and other

members on the, other side?

Where the holidays fall near their "summer solstice".

Would transplanting an American who has repetitive Holiday Blues to Australia for the Holidays effect their mood and enjoyment?

Funny you should bring this up, I hate the Christmas season. A few years ago I was talking to my therapist about it and she said I needed to make the Holidays my own. There is good reason for my hatred, my birthday is Christmas eve. I have never had a birthday party in my life on my birthday, I would get presents wrapped in Christmas paper with a card that said for your Christmas birthday, woopy fucken doo. To damn cheep to put birthday wrapping on the present.

I took the challenge, I did my research on Christmas and came to a decision, I would celebrate the Winter Solstice and do so on the 21st of December and celebrate with a dinner, tree, everything, I found a tree with all white lights, none of the ariniments have Santa or any religious symbols on them, the top of my tree is a STAR, 5 point. I now celebrate as did the people 2500 years ago, I don't celebrate Christmas at all and never will again. The whole thing is just so bogus as Jesus was born in March or April or May even but was not born in December.

And I am no longer in that holiday mood, I rather enjoy celebrating the Yule Tide as it was meant to be.

River

Complete with a Yule log and

woe to all if it does not burn until sun rise.

That Yule tradition?

My birthday is the summer solstice.

Best place for a Birthday.

Except I never got birthday observances in school.

My birthday is the longest day, in Moi's honor.

Even those born within a week of x-mas always

seemed to get combination gifts. My condolences.

Really.

I don't have a fire place but the local PBS station runs a YULE log for that 35 hour period, I keep my TV tuned in.

I feel my holiday blues creeping back. :(

I know because I am already wishing for January 2,

The End of it .

Took my dose of SAMe this morning.

Plan to see if that works on the season.

To all, may you fare better then I, these holidays.

Best Wishes

I know that feeling well,

I told my therapist several years ago and she told me I had to make the holidays my own.

She was right.

That was an epiphany for me which I live by to this day.

River

An epiphany (from the ancient Greek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Greek) "ἐπιφάνεια", epiphaneia, “manifestation, striking appearance”) is the sudden realization or comprehension of the (larger) essence or meaning of something. The term is used in either a philosophical (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy) or literal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literal_an ... e_language) sense to signify that the claimant has "found the last piece of the puzzle and now sees the whole picture," or has new information or experience, often insignificant by itself, that illuminates a deeper or numinous (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numinous) foundational frame of reference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_of_reference).

Sure you can make the holidays, your own but with

the whole world acting up makes it harder to navigate sanity.

Merry ! Happy ! Merry ! Happy ! and of course, Buy, Buy, Buy.

Easier to ignore H1N1. 🙄

Anyone have other survival ideas?

Lots of sugar?

One way to survive the so-called "holiday season" is to closely watch how other people behave during this period of time. You really get a sense of their insanity and the sillyness of it all.

Peace, love, goodwill towards others: You, I, anyone can do this on any given day. It is almost a shame that it is brought to the forefront for only a 4-6 week period of time, and not a regular part of our daily lives.

Clearly, when you watch what many other people subject themselves to during this time of year this should actually make you feel better, not blue, because you are not participating in the insanity. You just side-step the whole thing and watch as an observer, not a participant. There is nothing to be depressed about being an observer. The more you watch people during this season the better you should feel about you. As they are doing what they think they need (or want) to do, they should not be criticised or looked upon badly. It's their life and they choose to live it their way. It's just that how they choose to live their life should not have a negative impact on how you feel or how you live your life.
