Registered just before the hackers hit then had to reregister.

I don't get it. Hackers and people who make computer viruses and worms, stuff that just messes everyone up. Why do they do it? What do they get out of doing it? Don't they have anything better to do?

They must know a lot about computers. With their computer skills they could get a good job, make a lot of money, help people. But NO, they're too busy messing everyone up. I just don't get it. Why?

First off, very few of them could use their "skillz" to get a real job. Hacking is not at all like normal computer programming - if a normal programmer is analogous to an architect, a hacker is either a thief or voyeur.

And mostly they do it because they're bored. And no, most of them don't have anything better to do. Most hackers are bored teenagers ("script kiddies") who learn a few tricks and then screw things up for awhile until their balls drop and they just start jerking off instead. The rest tend to fall into the Jabba the Hutt mode, living in their parents' basements and eating Cheetos.

Why do they do it? What do they get out of doing it?

After the hacking, the amount of SPAM in my inbox has increased tremendously. So maybe they were harvesting e-mail addresses.

Or maybe there's some virus which is spewing out junk e-mails all over the place.
