Artificial man made testicles coming soon!

Post by Hash (imported) »

It's going to be possible very soon to get replacement testicles. Check out this web site:

www.applesforhealth.com/MensHealth/viteproc4.html It's entitled "New Array of Male Sexual Treatement!"

So if a man decided to be castrated, but decided later that it was a wrong choice or decision, he could essentially be fitted with new testicles that really work. However, every so often they have to be filled back up with testosterone. Like going to the gas pump!! Wild isn't it. Hash

Sounds like a nice way to deliver testosterone ... Better than shots. I wonder if they make them in big sizes?

Interesting set of material. An artificial penis is discussed in addition to the artificial testicles. As well as a number of other topics.

Unfortunately, the “artificial testicles” would be only slightly more functional than the dangling decorations of Neuticles™, which are available through your local vet. They’re designed so that your castrated dog will “look right” if you’re really concerned about such things. These “great” new inventions simply work as a refillable testosterone pump. There are plenty of alternatives available already. There’s even been a two-page full-color ad for Androgel™ in a recent issue of Forbes.

In a series of presentations at the annual meeting of the American Urological Association, researchers briefed reporters on some of the breakthroughs in prospect in the not-too-distant future:

-- Dr. James Yoo, research associate at Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, said he is developing an artificial testicle. Many men who have lost testicles through diseases or trauma wear prosthetic silicone devices -- somewhat akin to breast implants.

But these testicular implants have no bodily function.

Yoo and colleagues have figured out how to take cartilage from the ear, expand the tissue in culture and incorporate it into the silicone prosthesis. Then, the male hormone testosterone is injected, which slowly leaks into the tissue surrounding the testicle and into the body, providing a more natural hormone replacement.

The prosthesis can be re-loaded when the testosterone is depleted.

The work has proved successful in rats and Yoo suggested human trials may begin in a year or two.

Sharlip noted while the device may help normalize testosterone levels it will not affect sperm production.

The artificial penis does seem to be a functional organ, though.

-- Dr. Anthony Atala, associate professor of surgery at Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, said he has used similar techniques to create a new penis -- or at least part of one -- that can be attached to the remainder of the native organ.

"The animals with these organs function normally. They can penetrate, copulate and ejaculate with these engineered tissues," he said. Men can lose their penises through diseases such as penile cancer or through trauma. Atala said he is perhaps a year away from beginning human trials.

In Atala's studies, penile tissue is removed in a biopsy procedure, expanded in the laboratory, molded onto a biodegradable collagen scaffold and than transplanted onto the penile shaft.

And there’s much more to both the article and the web site that should be of interest to readers here:
