Life of Pi

I haven't seen this movie yet, but I intend to see it soon. I read the book, and it was absolutely enchanting. The movie has good reviews.

IMDB says that at one point, M. Knight Shyamalama- what's- his- name was on to do this film.

I may go see it so long as HE had nothing to do with it.

My experience with M. Knight Shamalamading-dong's movies.

The Sixth Sense - Loved this movie, and still do. Masterful.

Unbreakable - I really liked it, bit hooky, but totally watchable.

Signs - All right, I guess. Water was their weakness? Okaaay.

The Village - Okay. No more twist endings for you. Its old. This movie was only, meh.

Lady in the Water - What was this? I don't even... Legitimately bad movie. Just bad. Skip it.

The Happening - Trees are your villain? Trees? You've got to be fucking kidding me. Go home M. Knight. You're done.

Devil - Saw this one by accident on cable. Instantly regretted it. Hey, M. Knight. Didn't you get my memo about no more twist endings? YOU SUCK!

The Last Airbender - Aaaiiighhhh! It burns! It sucks so bad my eyes melted. Do not view this thing directly. Think "Raiders of the Lost Ark" opening of the Arc. Nazi face meltingly bad.

After Earth (in production now) - Who gave this man another movie? Why would you do that? I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for me to buy a ticket for this, I can tell you I don't have money. But, what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let this movie die now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

^You know what kills me the most about "The Last Airbender" being so horrifically bad? I actually really love the cartoon series that it's based on. "Avatar: the Last Airbender" is one of my favorite American animated shows, full of humor, heart, some really legitimate drama, and a fantastic fantasy world. And M. Night turned it into a total turd. Now the series has a bad name due to his ineptitude, and it really deserved much better.

Anyway, back on topic, I'm definitely planning on seeing "Life of Pi." I've never read the book, don't even know what it's about aside from the fact that it's about a journey of some sort involving a man a tiger and a boat, but it looks AWESOME, and I love Ang Lee. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is one of my 20 favorite movies, and just to see Ang Lee tackle another fantasy-style story is enough to make me want to go. The great critical reviews are a big boost too.

I'll be curious to see how much of what happened in the book before they boarded the ship is in the movie, his life in India. That's when we get to know and love this kid. I'll be disappointed if that's not included.

I probably had this book before months before reading it and was certainly glad I finally got around to it.

Good one. At least you kept it down to two decimal points so Americans recognize your point.

I love it, especially the "After Earth" commentary. So frigging accurate.

You know, I watched "The Day After Tomorrow", and in the context of that movie, I was willing to accept the outrageous concept of "outrunning the cold". Ok, when I'm not watching the movie, it's a laughable concept, but in the context of the movie, I'm willing to give it a bye.

When watching "The Happening" though.... and the people are trying to "outrun the wind".... I really could not help but laugh my ass off. There's only so much I can take in terms of suspension of disbelief. The Happening goes way, way beyond that point. In fact, there's only one movie that's ever exceeded it in terms of being pulled out of the movie after hearing something snap. Transformers 3. Needless to say... I will absolutely not watch another movie that he's been involved in. In fact, I want to join you in your crusade to prevent him from making another movie.

I saw Life of Pi today. While not as magical as the book, it was good, a visual feast, at least. It's another case of not as good as the book, but for those that haven't read the book, I would recommend it.
