Years ago, the Yale library had a reading room with nice comfortable leather chairs that was restricted to men only. Some of the female graduate students (there were no coeds at the time) wanted to use the facility and began a controversy. There was resistance from some of the hidebound Old Blues. Someone published a letter in the Yale Daily News with the line, "if we let them into our library, the next thing you know they'll be marrying our sons." The "men only" signs came down the next day.
