longest password -- blonde joke
During a recent company IT audit, it was found that a blonde was using the following password:
MickeyMinniePlutoHueyLouieDeweyDonaldGoofyPhoenix
When asked why she had such a long password, she said she was told that it had to be at least 8 characters and include at least one capital.

Bravo.
When I was working, the IT department changed passwords every six months and drove us all crazy.

I think I would have picked some different characters and perhaps St Paul instead of Phoenix - I've never been fond of phoenix - too damned hot

I worked at one place that changed the pass word every week, 15 char long and full of special char. They decided the password, random generated. We all hated it, wrote it down and kept it in our wallets.

I understand that now security experts are more concerned with phishing and key loggers than with password guessing. Close one door and the hackers find another.

At my office due to PCI compliance, we have to change our passwords once every 90 days and it has to be a complex password.
PCI compliance is required as we store credit card information on our servers.
I'm the administrator of the systems here and everyone bitches each time as the password cannot be repeated for 5 cycles.
Oh the joys of being an administrator.

I did that exact thing for a while - two passwords - when they demanded a change, I typed in the other password. Then six months later, typed in the old password. It worked for a while until they started saving old passwords and comparing them. RATS! Foiled again!

Best type of pass word combo is to add a key fob, you press the button and enter the 6 digit number that changes every 30 seconds. The password no longer matters to a point, its the key fob that's the makes the difference.

My solution to the password requirement was simple, if I was ask for a new password today I would choose;
Friday082312%
and write a % sign on my calendar.
It's high quality and no one but me knows what my %sign means.
