Sorry if this is a strange question but I lost mine 11 weeks ago now and I used to be very regular about 4 times a day but now its once a day and sometimes every other day. I take 20mg per day of testim gel and calcium with vitamin D, it all seems a bit strange did anyone else go the same after surgery.
Sorry for the topic but thanks in advance.
Does castration = constipation?

Re: Does castration = constipation?
I am regular and have never had issues from calcium and vitamin D. The only time I suffer from constipation is when I start a new diet and my body wonders what the hell is happening.

Re: Does castration = constipation?
11 weeks isn't a long time for the body to adjust after such major surgery and I hope you soon settle back into your former routine. Castration will inevitably make some changes to your hormones, even if you're on HRT, and these may be responsible for your changed routine. If there is any pain or blood associated with your visits to the bathroom it would be wise to consult a doctor. Have you noticed any other changes? After I was castrated I lost my desire for sugar and salt, so since then I've rarely eaten cakes, biscuits, puddings or crisps and peanuts. Maybe that helped me to stay slim.

Re: Does castration = constipation?
Many people experience constipation or other digestive or intestinal disruption following general anesthesia. Emotions and stress can contribute to constipation. Hormones interact with hormones. Any of them being low or high can cause numerous disruptions. A physical, panel of blood tests, even hormone level testing, may help to determine the cause. Never take any change in body functions lightly. Nobody wants to use the "C" word, but should cancer be coincidentally present you don't want to assume that a recent castration is the only cause for unexplained changes in body functions.

Re: Does castration = constipation?
Have you been regularly taking any pain killers since you've been castrated? Vicodin, morphine, tylenol, and other drugs along that spectrum have the side-effect of promoting constipation. Of course, if you've not had a bowel movement in 3 days or longer you should get concerned, but if it is less than that, I wouldn't worry too much.
Drink plenty of water. If it persists start with gentle laxative over the counter drugs like Senna 8.6mg tablets, then colace (stool softener 100mg tabs should do). If you still don't get results then try some Milk of Magnesia (about 2 Tablespoons), then progress to a fleet enema. All these are available in a local drug store. In this list I've started with the least intrusive drugs possible. Start with the first and work your way up if you're not getting results within 12-hours at each step.
This is standard "bowel care" given to long term care patients and usually provides results in the time I specified above. Once you get a result, stop using the medicines.
I hope this helps.

Re: Does castration = constipation?
THanks all I do take co-codamols but not many and they never cause a problem it just seems strange to go from 4 times a day for 40 years to once or zero since my op 11 weeks ago.
Thanks all
