Prosecutors accused the housemaid of assaulting her sponsor and causing him a 40 per cent disability in his private parts.

Dubai: A Bangladeshi housemaid, who allegedly cut her 77-year-old Emirati sponsor's penis after he asked for a massage, will stand trial on Thursday.

Prosecutors accused the housemaid of assaulting her sponsor and causing him a 40 per cent disability in his private parts, Gulf News has learnt.

"She has been referred to the Dubai Court of First Instance and her trial starts today (ThursdaY). She has been referred to the criminal court because her accusation is assault that led to permanent disability," a source close to the case told Gulf News on Wednesday.

"Had she been charged with assaulting and injuring the victim without causing him any disfigurement or disability, she would have been referred to the Misdemeanors Court," the source said.

"During police questioning, the woman claimed that she chopped her sponsor's penis because she was fed up with his continuous sexual harassment…," the source said.

A senior prosecution source told Gulf News that the woman was recently granted bail after spending several weeks in provisional detention.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors allege the housemaid used a sharp tool to cut the Emirati's penis leaving him permanently disabled. The injury required more than 20 days' sick leave.

Police records said the man was rushed to hospital following the assault.

The Emirati man, who resides in Deira, bled severely when he was rushed to hospital.

The man had underwent an urgent surgery where doctors at a public hospital reattached his appendage.

According to primary interrogations the defendant was mainly hired to take care of the man.

During questioning she claimed that she used a knife to cut off her employer's penis as he had been allegedly sexually harassing her for many days.

According to the Penal Code, a suspect, who assaults someone and deliberately causes the victim a permanent disability, could face up to seven years in jail.

Anger

Police records said the Bangladeshi woman alleged that her employer had asked for a massage and had been harassing her.

She became angry and so she took a knife and attacked him.

I'm wondering exactly what 40% disability in private parts implies. The story says the penis was reattached. Does that imply that he can urinate with it (20%), get an erection (10%), engage in sex (30%), but can't achieve an orgasm (the missing 40%)? Or that he can achieve orgasm only 60% of the time? They guy's 77 years old, for Pete's sake. I imagine there are a lot of men his age who'd settle for an orgasm 60% of the time. A fair number would settle for not having to wear an adult diaper. The article seems to leave a lot to the imagination--not just what 40% implies but what sort of massage he was after that triggered that much anger. It's hard to imagine that she seriously imagined she was in danger from a guy his age, but it would appear that the guy seriously underestimated the danger he was in from her.

In the Arab world, their servants are treated extremely badly. It is pretty much indentured slavery. Read the articles about how the wife of one of Gadafi's sons would pour boiling water on her nannies and starve them for three days until maggots were hatching in their wounds. I'm pretty sure that any female servants with any sort of attractiveness at all are raped daily.

Interestingly, this sort of thing is happening more and more in China. A Chinese friend of mine had her sister-in-law come to visit North America and she brought her nanny along (just a poor Chinese 20-something girl). Anyway, the sister-in-law would refuse to let the nanny eat at the table or at the same time as the family, she had to walk 10 paces behind the family, wasn't given an umbrella in the rain and basically was treated like a dog. My friend was totally shocked and snuck some food to the nanny, and when the sister-in-law found out she punished the nanny by docking her wages.

Honestly, I'd be pretty happy if we just went around and euthanized all these inhuman people (the people trying to enslave and abuse others). They really don't contribute anything to humanity with that sort of mistreatment of others.

Guess my ignorance of the "culture" of that area of the world is showing. Thanks for the eye-opener. I've heard that punishments can be severe (like getting hands cut off, stoning to death, etc.), but I had no concept of what life would be like for hired help. Think I'll just stay here in the Midwest US.

Many years ago, I think it was 1987 maybe, I was living in Greece and it was truly the best time in my life. Through some very, very odd chain of events, I met a very well to do (and stunningly beautiful) young lady and ended up picking her up to go dancing one night (she was way out of my league and that was the only date I had with her). After I picked up my friend, we went over to her friend Mersana's home to pick her up and take her along with us... her friend Mersana was also very beautiful and from a very wealthy Greek family. While I was waiting for Mersana and my friend to come down the father invited me to sit and chat, asked me if I wanted anything to drink, I said a coke would be great if he had one, quickly a little girl, maybe 11 or 12 came into the room with a bottle of Coca-cola and a glass of ice on a tray... I was amazed that the family was being so hospitable to me, I was just a poor old sailor. I really enjoyed chatting with Mersana's father for a while about this and that. Eventually the ladies came down and the three of us left for the disco. On the way to the disco I told Mersana that her little sister was just about the best behaved kid, bringing that coke in the living room so quick - for sure no American brats would have obeyed their father like that... Mersana and my friend looked so puzzled and started talking back and forth in Greek and told me that Mersana had no sister, so I said told them about the kid who brought me a coke - "Who was she? A niece? A cousin? She was so polite and quiet, and bringing in the coke and ice like that, what great kid..." They both started laughing, the kid was in fact the MAID, and she was in fact a CHILD, she was a Somali refugee who was at least half white and looked almost like a Greek, she had curly hair but was NOT really black skinned. I just did not know how to react to that situation, I did not say much anything for the rest of the night. I felt wierd because some KID was working in my friends' home, bringing me a Coca-cola at someone's beck and call... Children should have a CHILDhood, not a job... But she was a refugee, and her prospects were probably very very dismal in Somalia, some half white bastard kid who would quite probably have starved to death if she was not working like a slave in some rich Greek family's home.... It has been MORE THAN TWENTY years, and I still worry about that kid, it was very obvious to me, and my friend and Mersana, that I was NOT one of the wealthy people, and never would be, I never could be comfortable having a CHILD work for me like that. If someone's 12 year old son or daughter get's their father's guest a coke because they are just being a good kid, that is OK with me and a fine demonstration of a good family's hospitality, but if some poor 12 year old kid is WORKING as a maid... that is just WRONG. But still, if she did not have the job as a maid, she would have in all likelyhood, been just another one of the THOUSANDS of kids who starve to death, so I guess maid work is not the greatest of evils for a child, but damn it just feels so wrong to me.

While that seems fair, it is actually the way the trap works. The kids, nannies, slaves have nothing to go back to and even abuse might seem better than war/death/starvation in their home country. That actually makes it doubly evil in my mind.

Dubai: A Bangladeshi housemaid, accused of cutting off her sponsor's penis with a razor and throwing it in the garbage, cried in court on Thursday as she denied the charges against her.

When the 26-year-old suspect, J.N., stood before the Dubai Court of First Instance, she cried and covered her face with her palms when her accusations were read out.

She was heard mumbling in an unclear voice before Presiding Judge Mohammad Majid Mohammad, who adjourned the hearing until Thursday, when a Bangladeshi language translator will be available.

Prosecutors accused J.N. of causing 40 per cent permanent disability to her 77-year-old Emirati sponsor, M.M., after she cut off his penis with a shaving razor when he asked for a massage.

J.N., who wore a black abaya and sheila in the court.

Initial denial

The minute when the court translator Abdul Qader translated for her the accusation, she cried.

She could be heard saying that she did not do the crime and asked to be sent back to her country.

But Presiding Judge Mohammad recorded her statement in the presence of a Bangladeshi translator.

When questioned by prosecutors, J.N. admitted that she had grabbed the razor from a nearby cupboard and chopped off M.M.'s penis when he asked her to massage him.

"Two days prior to my arrest, M.M. raped me. I could not resist him or defend myself because he threatened to kick me out of the house. The next day he raped me a second time.

"On the day of the incident, he asked me to massage his private parts. I spotted the razor on the top of the cupboard. I did not let him realise that I grabbed the razor… then I massaged his private parts for a short period.

"Then I waited for the proper chance and chopped his penis which fell on the floor. I took it up and threw it in the garbage. Frightened, I rushed out of M.M.'s room and hid in another room," J.N. told prosecutors.

Crying in pain

Meanwhile the sponsor's 19-year-old son testified that he heard his father crying in pain.

"I rushed out of my room and saw him sitting at his chair with blood covering his kandoura. When I asked him about the blood, he claimed to me that J.N. cut his penis. I prevented the defendant from running out of the house.

"Police arrested J.N. Meanwhile, my father was rushed to hospital," said the son.

Dubai Police's forensic report ruled out the possibility that the woman was subject to any recent sexual intercourse.

The forensic doctor, who examined M.M., estimated the degree of disability caused to the victim depending on his age and sexual performance prior to the incident.

The claimant did not show up in court.
