Hitchhiking in Arizona

A traveling salesman was driving through an isolated part of Arizona one hot summer day when he saw someone ahead of him on the road. He stopped and saw it was an elderly Hopi Indian. The Hopi explained he had been trying to catch a ride all day as the turnoff for his pueblo was another fifty miles down the highway.

The salesman was bored anyways so he offered the old Hopi a ride to his turnoff. During the first fifteen minutes, neither said a word to the other. The Hopi then glanced down at the paper bag lying on the car seat. He asked the salesman, "what's inside the bag"?

The salesman replied, "it's whiskey, I got it for my wife." He then asked the Hopi if he wanted a sip and the Hopi nodded yes. Several more minutes passed in silence.

Then the Hopi smiled and said to the salesman, "good trade."

Obviously, the old Hopi had been married before.
