La plaga

Post by Arab Nights (imported) »

I was amused by this. It brought back memories. In my job I get lobbed into the middle of other peoples and cultures. At first I was a little nervous about being the only white guy for a hundred kilometers. Now I do not even think about it. Things always start like this clip and they always end like this clip. Always.

Yeah. I had hoped that wouln't put off some people. Half the point though is you see people who cannot communicate beginning cautiously and ending up having a rollicking good time enjoying each other's company. Even on my first days in my first job overseas when I could ask in heavily accented Spanish where the bathroom was but could not understand the answer, I still had some very enjoyable times as long as I did not stay behind the house walls, but was willing to get out there (with my maximum daily needed toilet paper neatly folded in my back jeans pocket) and mix with them on the streets and in their homes and in their businesses.

I remember years ago being in Thailand for 4 wonderful months, most of the Thai's spoke English but the customs were so different, and trying not to offend them was an art, but like you say once they see you as a happy friendly person language and customs are forgotten.
