Savage Love Advice

Post by Dave (imported) »

Every few weeks, I read Dan Savage's Savage Love advice for the lovelorn column. It used to appear in a local newspaper that they handed out in a restaurant I frequented. It's a guilty little habit of silly fun.

Take for instance this gem:

The question: My mistress wants to deny me the pleasure of regular food. We want to create a "slop" that I can eat four to five times daily that is highly nutritious but as bland-tasting as possible. Any ideas? Can you consult a nutritionist?

The Answer: Are there any vegan restaurants in your area?

Savage also invented the dirty meaning to "Santorum" if you don't know.

Dan Savage is editor of the Stranger, a local paper just a few blocks form my condo. There are a couple of vegan restaurants within a few blocks of their offices that fully justify his comments. I ate there once; Only once.

I was sitting in a small restaurant/bar (that has since gone out of business because the owner got tired of running it) waiting for my hamburger and fries and reading the news stories and Savage's column in The City Paper when behind me, I hear two couples at another table giggling and laughing. She read the definition of "santorum" out loud to her friends and they laughed. She did a couple minute riff on "santorum" and I was mortified that anyone would say those things at dinner, in public.
