The Prez Speaking To School Kids

Post by moi621 (imported) »

As a child of the '50's, I cannot imagine if TV's were set up for President Eisenhower, or later JFK and LBJ - the Presidents of my school years,

so the President would motivate the pursuit of education

I just cannot imagine a "political stink" would be made about it.

It would be patriotic.

He is the President.

What is wrong with Americans today that they became so individually small and provincial as to remove their children from hearing the President tell children it is their patriotic duty to study.

I mean what is it all about, really.

When did things go so, bizarre?

๐Ÿ˜ฑ & ๐Ÿคฎ

It really makes me sick.

Reagan did it. It didn't make headlines back then...

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/9/4/ ... r-Children

PRESIDENT REAGAN: Well, thank you very much. Please, be seated. You know, this is a real treat for me, having you here, and to have in a little while the chance to answer some of your questions. Let me also offer a special hello to those of you who are watching on C-Span, or the Instructional Television Network. Thank you for inviting us into your home or your school today ...

And that is a vision that goes beyond economics and politics, it's also a moral vision, grounded in the reverence and faith of those who believe that with God's help, they could create a free and democratic nation ...

Because you see, the taxes can be such a penalty on people that there's no incentive for them to prosper and to earn more and so forth because they have to give so much to the government ...

There was talk about having a gun ban in California. It didn't go through. But I got a letter from a man in San Quentin Prison. And from the prison he wrote me the letter to tell me he was in there for burglary, he was a burglar. And he said, "I just want you to know that if that law goes through, here in San Quentin there will be celebrating throughout the day and night by all the burglars who are in prison."[/I]

Remarks to Students and Faculty at Alice Deal Junior High School

1991-10-01

Thank you, Ms. Mostoller, and thanks for allowing me to visit your classroom to talk to you and all these students, and millions more in classrooms all across the country.

You know, long before I became President I was a parent. I remember the times that my kids came up with a really tough question or a difficult decision. I tried my best never to shut them down with a quick ``no.'' I would simply say those three magic words that made that problem disappear: ``Ask your Mother.'' [Laughter]

Let me tell you why I've made the trip up from the White House to Alice Deal Junior High. I'm not here to teach a lesson. You already have a very good teacher. I'm not here to tell you what to do or what to think. Maybe you're accustomed to adults talking about you and at you; well, today, I'm here to talk to you and challenge you. Education matters, and what you do today, and what you don't do can change your future.

They, (presidents) keep talking about education because kids today are falling way behind.

I remember when my kids were in school, I looked at the school year week by week to see what was going on, what I found was that between September and June they (my kids) had 2 weeks where they were in school the full day all week long, the first 2 weeks of the school year. Starting in week three there was days off so teachers could grade papers, called a teachers day, NO School. there were parent teacher conferences which took a couple weeks several times that year and on and on it went. From what I understand this policy still continues to this day.

So why don't kids get a good education today? Maybe its because they have stopped teaching.

Maybe they would be happier if President Obama encouraged the kids in school to fail.

How awful that the president would encourage kids to do well in school ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘‹

My school district, mid coast Orange County California

<the horror>

Newport-Mesa in "The O.C."

Is going to record the President's message for later broadcast to the students.

"They" claim they do not have the electronic infrastructure to support simultaneous broadcast to all students.

"They" lie. One of the richest well computerized districts doesn't have enough little screens? Or can't organize the broadcast onto a few larger screens.

School Administrators are every students first teacher on institutionalized lying. :shakemitk

Well that's what I would expect from Orange County, Republican right wing central and yes very rich, I would be shocked if they showed it in any class room. In sted they will more then likely test a new system with some of Ronald Reagan's old speeches.
