Worry plenty
WORRY Is there a magic cut off period when
offspring become accountable for their own
actions? Is there a wonderful moment when
parents can become detached spectators in
the lives of their children and shrug, 'It's
their life,' and feel nothing?
When I was in my twenties , I stood in a hospital
corridor waiting for doctors to put a few
stitches in my daughter's head. I asked, 'When do
you stop worrying?' The nurse said,
'When they get out of the accident stage'. My
Dad just smiled faintly and said nothing.
When I was in my thirties , I sat on a little
chair in a classroom and heard how one of my
children talked incessantly, disrupted the class,
and was headed for a career making
license plates. As if to read my mind, a teacher
said, 'Don't worry, they all go through
this stage and then you can sit back, relax
enjoy them.' My dad just smiled
faintly and said nothing.
When I was in my forties , I spent a lifetime,
waiting for the phone to ring, the cars to come
home, the front door to open. A friend said,
'They're trying to find themselves. Don't worry.
In a few years, you can stop worrying. They'll be
adults'. My dad just smiled faintly and said nothing.
By the time I was 50 , I was sick and tired of being
vulnerable. I was still worrying over my
children, but there was a new wrinkle. There
was nothing I could do about it. My
dad just smiled faintly and said nothing. I
continued to anguish over their failures, be
tormented by their frustrations and absorbed in
their disappointments.
My friends said that when my kids got married I
could stop worrying and lead my own
life. I wanted to believe that, but I was
haunted by my dad's warm smile and his
occasional, 'You look pale. Are you all right?
Call me the minute you get home. Are
you depressed about something'?
Can it be that parents are sentenced to a
lifetime of worry? Is concern for one another
handed down like a torch to blaze the trail of
human frailties and the fears of the
unknown? Is concern a curse or is it a virtue
that elevates us to the highest form of life?
Now in my 60's, one of my children became quite irritable
recently, saying to me, 'Where have you been? I've been
calling all day and no one answered. I was worried about you.
I smiled a warm smile.
The torch has been passed.
PASS IT ON TO OTHER WONDERFUL PARENTS.

Re: Worry plenty
"So far, worrying has been a very benificial activity.
Everything I ever worried about hasn't happened."
It's only when you realize that you are worried that you are worrying too much that you start to worry that you might have a problem, which in turn, distracts you from all the other things you were worrying about.
Ultimately, education, taking precautions, being prudent, making reasonable and rational decisions is about all one can do. Crap happens, and no amount of worrying will prevent it from happening.
Life can be quite fun when we take time to just enjoy it as it usually rolls along and not worry about a quinzillion of bad things that might happen.
Hope is a four letter word, but it is much more beneficial in the long run than worry. Hope = positive; Worry = negative.
When the phone doesn't get answered, the called party might be:
HOPE: They are Gardening, taking a nap, out for a stroll, sitting on the pot, watching a TV movie and don't want to be disturbed, or..................
WORRY: They drowned in the bathrub, had a heart attack, as they ran for the phone they slipped on a rug, fell on the floor, bashed their head and fell unconscious.
There is so much about life that we can't control.
Fortunately for most of us, we can control our thoughts.
I love that song: Don't worry..........be happy.

Re: Worry plenty
I used to worry about everything until God found me and let me know he was in charge not me.I know there will be those in here that will say if there was a God how could he let bad things happen.Well the sad fact is there is still a god of this world called the devil or the fallen one.He is the god of this world but when we turn our life over to the God of heaven he takes care of us and our worries.Dose that mean we get every thing we want no but we get Our Father in heaven and thats all I need to get the peace I need in these times.Take care folks and my prayers will always be with you

Thanks for your prayers. They will never harm any-one.
I am very close with my father, and one of the hardest lessons He teached me, was as he made me understand that he and the devil are one and the same person. I am his equal, we all are, and we have to deal with it just like HIM. I am not scared for that part of the devil in me, he is scared of me as he knows that I can always reflect his evil powers, and ad mine to them to destroy him.
One thing I have to disagree with you and a lot of God trusting people.
He would never be pleased by me if I would lean back telling everybody that HE is in charge, and make him responsible for the shit in this world by doing nothing about it. Don't mix up being a lazy devil with the feeling of peace.
You will not get rewarded for that, I can promise you
loveUall

The short answer is no. As long as you draw breath you'll worry about them.
It occurred to me somewhere along the line that becoming a parent is taking on the greatest risk of your life. Burying your own kid is probably the worst thing that can possibly happen to you.
And I for one wouldn't ever want to be without 'em.

Re: Worry plenty
I do not understand what you have said You mean the devil and God are the same.No that is not right as God made the devil and he decided he wanted to rule the world and from that day he has been against God with his fallen angles. And yes God said he is in charge of the nations. Now if we reject God as this nation is doing today he will give us over to what we want and we are seeing this every day.We have turned our backs on God and he has taken his hand off this country and we will all pay this price.Just watch the news this country is getting more wicked every day because this country is doing what it sees best fit to do what it pleases.Ok enough now I need to go to a quiet place and pray for all in here and this country.

So, who told you that.God would have been a big idiot to create the devil, or he must have found out that he couldn't exist without him. Just be honnest and have a deep look inside yourself.
The two are there and you can love the good as much as you like, you cannot send the bad one out. You can resist him, but he belongs to you as life and death. Why do you tell me that you don't understand this and then write exactly what there is to understand, or at least almost. God and the devil are not the same, but the two extreme limits of one. If you take that deep look inside yourself, you are lying if you deny it

ps And sorry if I am not going to be quiet. I can have my eternal peace any moment I need it without spending time. And I am most certainly not going to waste my time with prayers at a quiet place. You are right at one point, the world is turning partly to a hell, and people have been praying for generations, where is the result.... It is upto us to do something and act, yes maybe take the risk to pay the price. If we don't fight, we pay the price anyway
pps. If god made / created the devil, who has he become himself by that action?

I thought god gave us free will to choose to believe or not believe? It seems many of you think that we should all be forced to believe, just because you do. I don't believe there is a god and I don't want to follow your religion. It's completely contradictory and most of you that call yourselves Christians don't even know what the bible says and even if you do, it's a poor English translation. If you can direct me to the portion of the Bible that says that the devil has any power other than deception, I would be most interested?
It's funny. On one hand you say that you can not describe heaven because it's beyond this world and the laws of physics, yet hell has fire, which needs fuel and oxygen and seems to be quite worldly.
Here are just a few of the absurdities of the Bible.

All of the sudden there is a lot of preaching on this board. How sad. I thought we were safe from that here? I guess not.
