Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to remember Harley's in the late 60's early70's had a dial that you would crank down and a cruse control so you could at speed drive with your knees and not have either hand on the bars.

Oh God, hopelessly rolling on the floor chilli. I flashed back to university days when I used to take a bus to a professional meeting. So the bus is going down a major commercial artery and we pass one of the old 30s art deco theaters that had by then degenerated to a porno palace. There on the marquee in big letters was the feature film, "Homo on the Range."

My experience was about 9 PM returning from a long day driving. I was on one of the interstates in our capital city. So I am in the middle land on cruise control. There is a Cadillac Escallade in the fast lane and we are moving side by side at the same speed (probably about 70). After a while we start to come upon a knot of cars in the slow and middle lane. So I speed up a bit to get in front, signal, change into the fast lane and then slow back down to the speed we were going. Suddenly in the rear view mirror I see the Escalade headlights lift upwards like it is going up a ramp and I am wondering what the hell? She had stomped on the accelerator so hard the front end lifted as it accelerated. The Escalade goes into the grassy median and I am thinking it has a flat and is out of control. It passes me, pulls back into the fast lane and begins braking until we are at a full stop in the fast lane of a metropolitan freeway. I was really tired and was wondering what the hell was happening. Finally there is a gap in the traffic in the middle lane so I pull into it to pass it. It begins pacing me, the drivers side window goes down and this blonde pendeja hija de una puta gringa gives me the finger. Then she accelerates off. A bit down the freeway she was in the middle lane, signals left and whipped off to the right for an exit.

I have often replayed that in my mind wondering what to do better with the wife and kids in the car. So I think carrying heat is great for assholes like that Mexican, but carrying a cell and calling 911 is also great for dealing with instant assholes - just add SUV. The whole thing made such an impression on me that I have a no tolerance policty to dickheads in big cars and I have had the distinct pleasure of calling in since then one couple for aggressive driving who thought the road was made for their big Chevy and nobody else.

This is not meant to be a rant on all SUV owners because I know some really nice ones, but there are cases like my experience where I really wish standard factory equipment included a fire-and-forget rich bitch seeking weapon.

Umm... clearly people have no concept of how a motorcycle is operated. In order for Senor Cassnova to get close enough to try to touch Yoli as she drove an automobile properly configured for operation on the roads of the United States, this guy would NEVER have been able to do it because he would have to take his hand off the throttle of the motorcycle to perform the act of touching.

As a motorcycle driver myself, I know this would have caused nearly any motorcycle, even the quickest of bullet bikes, to slow down to the point Senor Cassanova couldn't have done what was described above.

Normally, I like these stories, but I'm afraid I have to call shenanigans on this one. 🍑👋

Losito,

Whether he had "cruz" control😄 or not I don't know. I DO know the facts, however, and they are as I stated.

If it helps any, he did pull a bit ahead before dropping back with his right hand in "grope" mode, so maybe he allowed self to coast in order to make his move.

No shenanigans. NO BS. Just an A55hole in the grass.

I've seen no mention of it in the local media so maybe he staggered away with relatively minor booboos...Darn it.

There's no way he could have noted my license # and the nearest other vehicle was an oncoming one at least 3/4 of a mile ahead. There were lights in my rearview but they belonged to a large P/U towing a horse trailer. I'd passed him some time before and I doubt he was doing over 60MPH whereas I was skipping along at 75+. He was wayyyyyyyyyyy behind me when El Creepo appeared, having come onto the highway from a ramp after I passed the horse rig.

I hope that resolves your doubts.

It may be good that he didn't get your plate.

As I remember, per Texas law you committed two crimes;

1) Threatening someone with a gun

2) Leaving the scene of an accident.

SUV's and one must play, dodge-car, with little weaving subcompacts. Could crush them but, then the P.D. and everyone gets involved. 🙄

Better to drive a Cutlass Cruiser than a subcompact.

Most cops I know would be very quick to arrest anyone who uses a gun, even if there are no shots fired, cops are very "arrest happy" where firearms are concerned.

So, what do you think Yoli should have done? Obviously you think the display of the firearm was a crime, and I am sure any cop would call it a crime also, so... Just WHAT is a law abiding citizen to do when completely isolated and with no reasonable hope for assistance or protection, and they are being harrassed by someone who may very well intend to do serious harm to them? Should Yoli have let Senior Ben Decko grab her? Should she have left the road? Slammed on the brakes?

As for leaving him in the median, I do NOT think for one second I would suggest to anyone in her situation go back to see if he were hurt. He was quite probably very angry at that point, and possibly very scared, if Yoli had approached him, the probability of an escalation of conflict is very high.

No, sorry Sweetpickle but I cannot agree with you and take the side of the law on this one. I am very certain that Yoli did the right thing. I am pretty certain that in a similar situation I would not have handled things as well as she did!

You never know how a cop or district attorney will view your actions, but a jury would probably side with Yoli. Especially in Texas. Still the mess is to be avoided if possible. As long as you didn't trade paint with the bike and there was nobody to get your license plate number, the best thing to do was drive away. The first priority is to take care of yourself.

No witnesses, no cameras, no problem.

As for the gun, I carry a revolver. If they misfire you just squeeze off another round. They don't jam and they don't eject empty shells to be collected as evidence.

Better tried by twelve than carried by six.

You are right, in many states you would be in Jail for that move but in TEXAS you would be haled a hero and seeing that the person was not totally WHITE, in TEXAS, they would have arrested him for littering and destroying public property and given him 5 to life.

Well, considering her traumatic pass I can't completely blame her for taking a strong defensive reaction.

Myself not being a female cannot, perhaps, fully appreciate being the potential victim of the attempted assault, but I do have a broad imagination...

I perhaps would have told/yelled that "I have a gun... back off!", and accelerated fast as possible. Should the guy have persisted then perhaps flashed some steel.

As far as driving off, I may have been more likely to call 911 to explaining some biker attempt to assault me on the highway and after a couple warnings he backed off but wiped out and in fear of my own safety will not go back. I've never been in quite that predicament, but have had a gun pointed in my direction. At the time a car had crashed into my wall and after leaping to safety, once the vehicle stopped, my first reaction was to see if anyone was hurt. In looking at the vehicle a man in plain clothes was heading - almost running towards me, gun drawn - perhaps my sherlock senses were tingling but I correctly deduced that he was an undercover cop chasing a fugitive (and therefore did not have to change my undies afterwards). Another person in the office saw the guy with the gun and was freaking out shouting call 911.

Anyway, at least if something does come out of this, by Yoli's testimony, I would think she has a strong self defense claim - but I'm not lawyer. I might expect she get slapped with some kind of fine though for threatening with a gun, but again, I'm not a legal expert - specially in Texas laws.

Hopefully the wipeout was just the slap in the head that guy needed with nothing more than a few bruises and dents to show and nothing worth pursuing legally.
