Marajuana and Drive under the influence

Post by Batman (imported) »

I was hanging out with a buddy the other day and we were discussing getting high vs getting drunk. Aside from his usual going on about how much better weed is and not as bad as alcohol...he thinks it is SAFE to drive when you are high, but wouldn't if he was drinking. I KNOW I've seen research that shows it is just as dangerous driving high. He also doesn't think a cop would pull him over or bust him if they did...*sigh*

He's funny too, because "it's okay to break the law" because it will be legalized one day. Then he claims to be tough on crime 😄 I lecture him on how he us supporting drug cartels that are pushing drugs in school yards and killing people...he doesn't care....

Funny thing is I'm not against weed, but I also know it isn't all innocent where it comes from.

Car and Driver had an article some decades ago where they did a study.

They had test drivers drink and drive a test course.

The drivers then smoked as much weed to where they felt as incapacitated. Well they drove slower but hit fewer obtacles then when on alcohol.

The simple truth is driving when one is not fit should be one's responsibiltiy whether it be, drunk, stoned, craving, insulin reaction, hypoglycemia, sleepy, maybe grumpy too.

Being involved in an accident or receiving a citation while driving and being influenced by a diversion such as eating, yelling at the kids, talking on a hands free phone = as dangerous as hands on = as dangerous as drunk should cost you extra !

If you can't walk the curb or pass a simple neurological exam for whatever reason, it is one's responsibility not to drive. Simple.

Why can't the lawyers get it?

I personally do not advocate drugs.

However, I have seen quite a few studies including some done by motoring shows that seems to prove that its more dangerous driving drunk than driving on weed.

Still, it isn't the best idea to drive while on any substance. I will admit to having driven tired before, which in my opinion is worse than driving drunk or high. When driving it is best to be alert and focused.

That said, I wonder if a BIT of weed would be helpful on someone who suffers from road rage?
