Bummer Summer?

Post by Beau Geste (imported) »

Curious as to whether the economy has caused anybody to curtail plans for vacation this year. We usually go to the mountains in the summer, also usually go to the lake country in the fall. Still plan to do the same things, but then those aren't particularly expensive journeys, especially with the gas price low. I'd guess the number of people going to the summer MOM will be about the same as in the two previous years. My impression is that most people aren't changing their vacation plans, despite the economic problems.

With any luck, there won't be any reason to ask this question in May of 2010.

I am going to turn my back yard into a paradise and enjoy it for the whole summer.

I live in Paradise, why should I go anywhere ?

Southern Coastal, ocean 1 mile, view from my home on a hill,

California.

The only foreign place I really would like to go is,

Christchurch, N.Z. built as an old English town, then take

the train across the ? Southern Alps ? to the otherside where

it is like NW California, Oregon & Washington coasts, cold not freezing rain forest.

So on one side of the mountains you have a Central Coastal

California appearing landscape and on the other a rain forest.

And they all speak a dialect of English.

Attached a link to my favorite National Park. It is best in the rain or

mist when the trees and ferns perk up as if to talk to one another and

'banana slugs' appear as if by magic, do not eat the beautiful magic

mushrooms though. Summer, still big, beautiful but relatively asleep.

Hope the links are enjoyed. There are lots of yummy private restaurants in Orick, McKinleyville, Arcata and Eureka. The Avenue of the Giants south of Eureka is worth it. Eureka and nearby Ferndale (featured in the movie, Outbreak") have lots of old style Victorian architecture and shops.

Hope the links are enjoyable and I did not bore anyone. I love nature.

I hate crowds. No more Paris, Amsterdam, London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Copenhagen, Florence, etc. again.

C'est Moi

Next month we go to Florida for a couple of weeks of visiting relatives. That actually is usually a good time for us.

In late August, we will be going on another cruise. Carnival Cruise Lines, in their infinite wisdom has moved a ship near us so driving to the port will be a piece of cake.

Speed;)

We are changing. We'll still be doing things, but those in part are living off things piled up during the boom. We'll probably be scaling back for three years to get things paid off. We are not in that bad a shape, but would be a bit more comfy with less debt.

...will spend mine in the back yard, rebuilt the in-ground pool before the recession, should be good for another 10 - 15 years at least... now if I can just afford the chlorine...

No vacation plans. I haven't taken a vacation for 23 or 24 years.

I'll spend the summer doing yard work, chopping wood for next winter, etc.
