LOS ANGELES — A friend of adult film star Marilyn Chambers says the actress has been found dead at her home in northern Los Angeles County.

Peggy McGinn says the 56-year-old Chambers was found by her 17-year-old daughter Sunday night and the cause of death has not been determined.

Chambers starred in the 1972 film "Behind the Green Door," which was more widely distributed and attracted a more mainstream audience than the usual adult fare.

Chambers, whose given name was Marilyn Briggs, was once a model for Ivory Snow. She was among the first porn superstars when the stag films of the 1940s through 1960s gave way to the more polished sex films of the 1970s.

I remember watching "Behind the Green Door" in the basement Common room of a small dorm building in college. The gang of guys I was with hauled me and my wheelchair down into the room and set up the projector. About halfway through, someone turned us into the Campus Cops. So they all bailed out the windows and the opposite door and left me sitting there (unable to get out) while the Campus Cops busted the projector.

The older Campus Cop (who I knew for 3 years. He was one of the Campus Cops who took me to the hospital when I broke my back) takes a look at the action on the screen and me and then the action again and then me and said in a loud voice "What are You doing here?" ... I shrugged and raised both hands at the screen and said "What does is look like?" and we all busted out laughing. I was 21 at the time. I wasn't doing anything wrong but I was the only person there. SO he made a big point of how he was "leaving for the night" and they left. I saw him later that week and he asked if "everyone else" returned and finished the film. I told him they didn't.

We had a good laugh that they were too chicken to really watch the film. (like yanno guys, we aren't virgins. Well, I wasn't a virgin.) ... Ah the happy memories of college.

"Behind the Green Door" wasn't all that good of a film. But it was way better than what came before.
