Busted!

Post by Paolo »

The neighbors' cat just had a litter of kittens.

Some months ago, "Bill the Cat" showed up here. Those familiar with Bloom County comics will know who he is. So, I figured he won't last long, he'll get run over, or the coyotes will eat him some night. Therefore, I didn't get him fixed.:dong: He's an outside cat anyway, and we have such a high turnover rate in cats.:-\

Last night, the little girl next door comes running over with the latest stray dog dumped out here to tell me the cat had kittens the other day. I hadn't been home until late, so the kids couldn't catch me before. So here comes her Mom, and we grab up Snoopy (my beagle puppy) and the other dog and go over to see the kittens.

There's five of them. #6 didn't make it. They're all a lovely mix of colors and patterns, and right smack in the middle of the litter is a bright YELLOW cat - looks just like Bill...

I guess we're busted...

Kittens do appeal to us. But take care of them. Now you have to fix all of them! We let Georgia have several litters until one summer in Oregon when we could not give away a litter. I insisted when we took those kittens to the pound, that Georiga had to be fixed. Instead, Linda got estrogen shots for her for the rest of Georgia's life. I remember how beautiful the kittens we took to the shether were and how likely they would not survive. Good luck.

We currently have 9 cats and all of them are neutered. At one point we had as many as 13! Almost all of them came to us as strays, and several were already pregnant. So that made one stray cat suddenly become 5 or 6. Most of them are getting along in years. Our oldest was 14 when she died. Several are 12 years old or more right now. The youngest is 3.

The only ones with balls here on the island are the dogs and a smattering of pissed-off middle eastern dudes.

My last cat of 11 years died several months ago.

Paolo - if cats can be shipped UPS, I'll take one :)
