:(

some of the scariest natural-disaster pictures I've ever seen. All those lost homes full of family histories...

Mind you, the upper limit of the (strictly financial) losses are estimated at 18 (call it 20) billion dollars; that amounts to only about 4% of the bailout for the banks the Government tried to offer as a bail-out (20 billion against 700 billion), or less than one single percent of that spent on the Iraq war business... you'd think that the money cost would be covered instantly by the government, I wonder if that will happen.

(BTW, Ramses, I LOVE your quote under your posts!)

It kinda sucks because the national media has pretty much forgotten about Ike. Like New Orleans, Galveston has got most of the attention where the area to the east (boliver peninsula) was just decimated so much more than Galveston. But I guess the world has never heard of these little seaside communities so it jsut doesn't get any attention.

Due to my line of work, I hear and see a lot of things most people never know about. Like the fact that there are a LOT of dead cattle all over the place down there and they are bloated and decaying in the 90 degree Texas heat. It's a pretty grissly sight. There are also a lot of missing people that may never be accounted for. All these people had just evacuated for Gustav and didn't have the desire to do it again. Many gambled and many lost their lives...

Those are impressive images. Thank you. We have turned our backs on the people of Southwest Louisiana and Southeastern Texas. I know how they must feel. Thank you for the images.
