Update and final bulletin:

It's all over but the grieving.

You may recall that in my initial post I mentioned that her vehicle T-boned a tree, then later posted that it was head-on impact. Well, it WAS head-on and the impact was so severe that she was literally crushed from the neck down, one leg being torn off as well. Thankfully, neither her mom nor the great lady who went to Tennessee with her were permitted to see the remains or the pics thereof. My hat's off to a very compassionate Medical Examiner.

My lost friend was, at my suggestion, cremated and her ashes brought back here. Yesterday, a large group accompanied us to a special place on the Guadalupe River, which runs through the glorious Texas Hill Country, and the ashes were gently dispersed to the wind and waters. We all got a little giggle when some tiny fish began to nibble on same. Well, she loved fish and so one might say it was only fair.

All the necessary legalities are in motion and she left an estate valued at over 800k after expenses. The down side is that her sibling and said sibling's adult child botharrived in from wherever-the-Hell they live and literally tried to loot my late friend's home. Well, they TRIED...but got nowhere.

Y'see, we had anticipated this and there were large and menacing types blocking their efforts. The sorry bitches actually arrived in a U-Haul truck they'd rentedl! The niece had brought along her lout of a BF to serve as driver. Can you believe it! They openly stated that "Mom doesn't need a big-screen HDTV, the new computer, the piano, the fine furniture, silver, china, and art works." And then the capper (from the niece,) "We can get a bundle for some of this stuff if WHEN we put it on E-Bay!"

There was nearly bloodshed but the presence of sheriff's reserve deputies, to include two females (one HOT...one NOT!) saved the day. I gladly paid the "rental" on the deputies. My large and capable female security guard friend and wanna-be Yoli lover was at my side the whole time too. I guess I owe her...I wonder what she might enjoy by way of special thanks...as if I don't know

The bitches tried to reach the mom in order to cajole her into calling off the "watch dogs" but she remains secluded and untouchable HERE at our place.

The evil ones have left town, thank God... didn't even make the trip to the river. "Mom" will meet with a lawyer from my firm soon create an ironclad will that leaves the two shrews absolutely NOTHING!

In more instances than not it's been my observation that death brings out the best and worst of human nature and it's always relatives that behave badly.

There is nothing uglier than fighting over money after a death. It happens in the best of families. Mom gets the inheritance, has to cancel credit cards, has to pay the taxes, pay the bills, pay the creditors, the lawyers, the estate taxes, the undertaker, and all that stuff. That all will take about a year - probate takes that long. It's tedious, thankless work.

Make sure Mom is taken care of.

But first, my sympathy to you and the family. Sudden death is the hardest of any death. I can tell you that from experience. And my advice is simply, remember the good and make a conscious effort to forget the bad.

There are lots of human predators out there. Your experience brings back some memories of the predators that my wife and I had to deal with when my father-in-law, father, mother-in-law, and mother died (in that order). We are a pretty small family so there were no siblings or cousins to deal with, but we did have to fight off a lady death freak who tried to steal my mother-in-law's house and money, a crooked stock broker who tried to steal my father's money, a venial undertaker, and a crooked nursing home operator, among others.

It'll be about 6-months before the memory fades to the status of a bad dream. Hang in there.

Dear Yoli,

You have my sympathy on the death of your friend. Sudden deaths are very difficult to deal with and I am sure it will take time for you to work through your grief. It really saddens me when families get into pitched battles over money and things when a 'loved' one has died. It says a lot about you that you not only anticipated what might happen but took steps to prevent the greedy relatives from taking advantage of a bad situation.
