Re: I want to know what love is.
There is no greater love than the love that Jesus Christ had for us. He loved us so much that he died on a cross in our place that we might have eternal life. There is no greater love than this. For me the greatest love that I have is the love I have for Jesus Christ. He is the one that leads my life everyday.

Re: I want to know what love is.
O.K., just what kind of love are we talking about? In the Greek language, thre are FOUR WORDS (http://www.greeceindex.com/various/gree ... words.html) commonly used for LOVE,
1. Eros
2. Storge
3. Philia
4. Agape
Can we qualify this, please?

i define agape love as the love God has for me, i didnt include an agape relationship in the choices because it would be like comparing apples and oranges. i was just going for the human on human choices.

Well you did not say that you just wanted human to human, if you had we would have left out god, his kid and my best friend Rupert.

Agape love by definition also includes spontaneus altruistic love. The aspects of altruistic love is what I was thinking when I mentioned agape love. Interesting thread Randy.

This is a complext topic. Most of us live it. We have knowledge about it. The literature on love is vast, profound, and intribuing. I don't have much to post here. The topic is just too complex for me.

Re: I want to know what love is.
Love is an unstable, irrational, emotional state, characterised by severe impairment of judgement. Whilst in the grip of the delusion, the lover imagines that it is permanent though, in fact, love is often of very short duration, being succeeded by disillusion, indifference, irritation, and, as is evident from the viciousness of many divorce hearings, hatred.
While love endures, it can be a most delightful experience. However, the bitter aftermath has often led to suicide or murder. Viewed dispassionately, love must be regarded as a pathological emotional condition, one better avoided than indulged.

I've been married to the same woman for over 43 years. What started as infatuation turned into friendship and now, perhaps, we just tolerate our joint existance.
