Perhaps this is related to castration for religious reasons, but I was thinking that in a way castration could be a way of extending the period of introspection and contemplation that usually occurs as people age. Liberating oneself from sexual urges might allow people to become more reflective earlier. Do the eunuchs on here believe this to be a true statement?
I ask because in my minds eye a " eunuch brotherhood", an informal contemplative group could be one of my goals eventually.

Re: Extending the Contemplative Period
I think the skopts in Russia also have had these aims: a life more comtemplative, but even with strong religious, fundamental aspects.
Whether this is now up-to-date will be another question.

Re: Extending the Contemplative Period
I do not know if I became more contemplative after castration but what I would contemplate changed. The lowering of testosterone allowed emotions to come to the forefront. My values changed and I appreciated beauty and friendship more than ever. I was surprised by my need for affection and even the desire to be a parent. I think before castration much of my thinking was about me and wants and desires but afterwards my world expanded in a good enriching way.

Re: Extending the Contemplative Period
I do not think that "introspective/contemplative reasons" are enough motivation for one to get castrated, just to become more reflective at an earlier age. It seems to me, from all that I've read, that most eunuchs are driven to castration by an inner need or overwhelming desire. I could not control my desire, it overcame me, I could not stop thinking about it, that's why I got castrated. Hash

...AH, I find it better to think AFTER sex... not WITHOUT sex... WITHOUT ruins the effect....
