As a sports fan I think its easy to understand the "abuse" issue. If you have some players injecting themselves with testosterone and some that don't is it fair? I think its just bull shit. The era of all these long held records being broken by these cheaters is one of the worst things to happen to sports. I think everyone involved should be removed from the records books totally.
The photo of this guy who was spending $300 a month on this? Holy crap. How could anyone allow this obvious cheater compete without being at the very least tested? Don't get me wrong I'm sorry he died but sheesh.....

I am a steroid "abusers", by most people's standards, BTW. And I have many friends who are like me. There are MILLIONS of us out there. Everyone is healthy
I do believe there are many documented results of Steroid misuse.
Steroid use and death
Alzado is probably most remembered today for being one of the first major U.S. sports figures to admit using steroids (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anabolic_steroid). In the last years of his life, as he battled against the brain tumor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_tumor) that eventually caused his death at the age of 43, Alzado asserted that his steroid abuse directly led to his fatal illness, but each of his physicians stated it could not be true, and that while steroids do have harsh side effects, they were not the cause of his brain cancer. According to some reports, Alzado was using natural growth hormone, harvested from human corpses, as opposed to synthetic growth hormones. However, shortly before his death, Alzado recounted his steroid abuse in an article in Sports Illustrated (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_Illustrated). He said:
“ I started taking anabolic steroids in 1969 and never stopped. It was addicting, mentally addicting. Now I'm sick, and I'm scared. Ninety percent of the athletes I know are on the stuff. We're not born to be 300 lbs or jump 30 ft. But all the time I was taking steroids, I knew they were making me play better. I became very violent on the field and off it. I did things only crazy people do. Once a guy sideswiped my car and I beat the hell out of him. Now look at me. My hair's gone, I wobble when I walk and have to hold on to someone for support, and I have trouble remembering things. My last wish? That no one else ever dies this way."[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyle_Alzado#cite_note-2)
If you look at the East German female athletes many are sick or dead from the use of steroids.
There is a lot of evidence world wide about what the use of steroids can do to you.
Having said that, if you have a beer a day you should never come to harm from it, if you have a 6 pack still no problem but if you drink a 30 pack every day, you have a problem. If you use steroids and do so with the help of a doctor and your not overdoing it you may be OK but I would never say that
there is to much evidence saying otherwise.Testman (imported) wrote: Tue Jan 29, 2008 4:50 pm Steroid users really never have any life threatening side effects.

what's always amazed me is that MLB allowed hyper-developed players like Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire play in that state for years when the "Before" and "After" photos of both suggested that there was very little likelihood that either got from "Photo A to Photo B" so quickly by simply working out in the gym.

That's excellent advice. Just because there have been few systematic studies of the impact of excessive steroid use on athletes and others, the evidence that is available is overwhelming that its hazards are very significant. Testosterone is now a Class A drug in most states because of those hazards and because so many have chosen to abuse it. Until the last few years, in some states it was difficult for those of us who use it legitimately even to get it; thankfully, that situation has been rectified.

Re: Eunuch steroid abuse
Several points in this thread to respond to.......
First off, like has been said before using anything but an injectable testosterone would simply be cost prohibitive. Androgel is NOT cheap , even with insurance.
Like others I have tried all the available methods of HRT. For me the pills were useless, as I seemed to metabolize it rather than have any effect from it. Shots left me with such swings of mood and desire, that it was like starting menopause every other week. (paraphrasing Testman). That was unacceptible. Gels by far are my choice, they are a steady daily delivery, and match well with my other body cycles.
Now as to the starting point of this thread. I have known a eunuch body builder for more than 25 years. He was so "juiced" on steroids as a teenager, that he was forced to have his atrophied testicles removed at 17. He has since been on some form of HRT. He still used steriods as well, until a few years ago. He says that now he no longer needs the steriods, that maintaining his physique now is easy with a slightly high dose of HRT. He even claims that some lifters purposely overuse steriods to shut down their nuts so they can get on legal HRT.
Steriod or Testosterone abuse is really not a huge issue. Yes if you are nuts about it, you could see liver and other issues come up, but that is by far a rare thing.
The saddest part of all this is the loss of trust in Pro Sports , where men used to set records on ability and stamina, not how many shots they had this month....................

Re: Eunuch steroid abuse
There was an HBO special on this issue a few years ago. Only 6 or so reported deaths out of millions of users. That to me, sounds like the safest drug in the whole world. Aspirin kills hundreds every year!
The reasons the Brits legalized steroids was because they said it was nearly impossible to harm yourself with it. I read that statement in the law myself. The reason everyone jumps on this bandwagon in this country, is because of the media. People simply refuse to believe our government has become as oppressive as it has, so they legitimize the government by pretending they are just trying to help us and that its laws are indeed righteous.
BTW, the state laws vary dramatically. In my state, it's just a class C misdemeanor, even for selling it. Some states, it's not even controlled at all.

Re: Eunuch steroid abuse
That bodybuilder posted above died from one of the many other drugs, not steroids. Yes, he took all sorts of shit. Ironically, probably the safest thing he was using is the steroids. I read a study somewhere that showed there's been more teen-aged girls die in cheer-leading practice, than there has been men who died from steroids. Maybe we should outlaw cheer-leading? And of course, the sports themselves are way dangerous. That's why I never played football. I value my health too much.
The media again, I have to say, they lie all the time. Just like when this baseball player who was notorious for admitting he did steroids died. The media, even though they knew he died from Cocaine overdose, they reported it in this headline, "Admitted steroid user dies of heart attach". Technically, I guess that's the truth. But a half truth at that. Or let's say some steroid user gets into a fight, the media will report it as if the steroids caused the fight. Or if someone kills someone and that person was on steroids. The truth is, steroid users have a lower incidents of all this behavior! I know dozens of them, and none of these men have ever once done any of this. Steroid users also get cancer at a much lower rate than non-users. But that doesn't mean it's a cure for cancer. Lyle Alzado still got cancer, but the media made it sound as if it was the cause. He died from AIDS. He had AIDS and the brain cancer he developed was specific to AIDS.
I think one of the biggest reason for all this which hunt shit is not even that people are deceived. I think at the end of the day, what it boils down to is men are jealous. That, plus women here have become very picky, and this has caused men to start fighting over women. The skinny guy who can't get a girl, knows that he will now look even skinnier when there's a bunch of juice heads running around. So he is of course anti-juice head. In a sense, he has a point too. But I think the answer is for hetro men to stop fighting over women and stop trying to cut the balls out from under the other men around, and instead call these American women on their shallowness. American men need to start being men again. To me it seems they lack a sense of security in themselves. When I went to Ukraine last year, it was so nice to be around men who didn't glare at me with hatred. See, over there, noone one thinks men should be held down like they do in the West. Men there, and women too, celebrate masculinity. Here, it's as if they try to deny it. We have become a society of meterosexuals and politically correct.

Re: Eunuch steroid abuse
The thing with sports is, its not as if these guys are natural their whole life, and then as soon as they get into the major leagues they get on gear. The truth is, they would have never gotten into the major leagues in the first place without it. So do they come off when they get there? Maybe. Maybe not. But if some of them don't, then that's a disadvantage to the others. So they use it because they know others are.

Re: Eunuch steroid abuse
I think the people who decide these things felt that sports fans wanted to see more homeruns and huge people jumping 30 ft etc. The truth is that for me at least this ruined sports. How do I relate to a multimillionare drug(Steroid) abuser?
Were fans of the 50's 40's 30's etc uninterested because their favorite stars didn't look like He-Man or Lex Lugar? Speaking of wrestling how many remember the pre steroid era? Were these guys loved and hated any less then these steroid injected monsters we see now?
Does the new steroid powered home runs record really mean anything? Only if you take all the previous players who didn't use them and say "you stupid suckers. You could have cheated and done much better then us!"
And cheating is what this really comes down to. A true sportsman would never condone this and what? Someone said 90% of these guys were doing it at one time? How sad. I think this speaks to the amount of money they people make to play the game which I think temps a lot of people. Its now to the point that its just insane.
I don't know how "safe" abusing steroids are but I do think its totally unfair to have some people misuse them and others not.
