cop steals pot, makes brownie, calls 911

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - A police officer in this Detroit suburb was allowed to resign after admitting he took marijuana from criminal suspects and, with his wife, baked it into brownies.
The department's decision not to prosecute former Cpl. Edward Sanchez left a bad taste in the mouth of at least one city official, who vowed to investigate.
"If you're a cop and you're arresting people and you're confiscating the marijuana and keeping it yourself, that's bad. That's real bad," City Councilman Doug Thomas told the Detroit Free Press for a story Thursday.
"That's like apprehending a bank robber and keeping some of the money for yourself."
The newspaper said Sanchez, who resigned last year, declined to comment Wednesday.
Police Cmdr. Jeff Geisinger left a phone message with a Detroit television station saying Sanchez resigned during an internal investigation. Geisinger did not return subsequent calls asking why Sanchez was not prosecuted.
The department's investigation began with a 911 call from Sanchez's home on April 21, 2006. On a 5-inute tape of the call, obtained by the Free Press under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, Sanchez told an emergency dispatcher he thought he and his wife were overdosing on marijuana.
"I think we're dying," he said. "We made brownies and I think we're dead, I really do."
Sanchez later told police investigators that his wife took the marijuana out of his police vehicle while he was sleeping. In a subsequent interview, he admitted he got the marijuana out of the car himself, put it in the brownie mix and ate the brownies.

Ok, so he made some brownies, I think he has learned his lesson, he is no longer a cop and he knows to put in less pot next time.
I wonder when if ever this country will just figure it out and make pot legal, it would solve two problems, it would take a big bite out of crime, no more drug (pot) dealers, and then you could sell it over the counter and TAX it.
Come on, this is a win, win.

Yeah unfortunately, the gov't makes too much money on posession fines to legalize it.

Not only are there the huge fines and lengthy prison sentences but the government seizes quite a bit of personal property which they auction off. They keep this money as well. It reminds me of the early days of Piracy when folks like Sir Francis Drake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Drake) where employed by Queen Elizabeth to seize the ships of Spain.
Oddly enough most growers and smugglers would not marijuana to be legalized either. So unless the people do something to change the system nothing will change.

Here's the Youtube version.
>>>"Stoned Cop Calls 911: A Drama" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=FHTzpXyXO-4& ... ed&search=)<<<
I guess the moral of the story is get the 411 before getting into the 420 or you'll embarrass your self on 911. Lucky for him he wasn't using something dangerous.

In my province, just last year, they actually changed the name of Highway 420 because they just could not keep signs on it! Constantly stolen mere weeks after being put up for the last number of years (of course, most frequently during the month of April), the highway I take to visit my insane Aunt Betty is now 440 or something...

Official Statement fro the Office of Homeland Security: We here by proclaim that extra high grade 420 shall henceforth be labeled as 440 to distinguish it from the lower grades of 420. This will ensure that our police officers won't OD and have to dial 911. After all it's a matter of national security.

I'm not sure of the origin, and have heard all the origin stories dismissed as BS, but essentially it comes down to a reference to pot.
