Star was definitely a different direction (again!) from you, Slammr. Well done! As a "Twisted Fairytale" (insert visions of a little wizard opening a book, two minutes after seeing Sherman and his talking dog here*) this could perhaps be the most mainstream story I've seen from you.

I admit to a love for certain other styles that you have done before, but this was just completely different.

* Help! What the heck show am I thinking of?? It had several little various bits... oh crap, of course... they are parts of Rocky and Bullwinkle. For some reason it always makes me think of the (live action) kids show Hillarious House of Frightenstein with the late, great Billy Zane. Which in turn reminds me of the show that creeped me out as a kid, H.R. Puffinstuff. I liked the kids on the show, but the whole other-worldlyness of it just gave me the willies.

I’m going to have to disagree with Stefan on this one. Star -- A Fairytale ( http://www.eunuch.org/Alpha/S/ea_24508star____.htm) may be the best story Slammr has written in some time. It’s brilliantly done and almost mainstream. It would take changes in only a handful of sentences (without changing a bit of the meaning) to get this into print.

I would put this one in any collection of the dozen or so best stories ever written for the Archive.

I would put the best of Slammr up against the best of any popular author out there. Except for the castration theme that runs through them, they are far better than most of what gets published. And, some of them would take very little rewriting to become mainstream.

Thanks to both of you. Star was just meant to be filler for a series of pictures I made, but I thought it turned out well.

"Star" was inspired by "Stardust," by Neil Gaiman, perhaps too closely inspired by it. I changed some of the story I posted on my web site because "Stardust" is coming out as a movie, and I had used some of the names from the book. It is of course, a completely different story from the one Neil Gaiman wrote. About all it has in common with it is the Fairy market that occurs every nine years.

I removed the link to the other story I'm writing. It's too subject to change right now.

Perhaps I'll someday complete the Harry Potter Jr story I started. I'd like to. It's just that a story like that is so greedy. It wants ALL of my time. It's not something that can easily be put down and picked up again at will.
