Embarrassometer ...

Post by dingbat (imported) »

(Not sure where to put this, thought the joke section was the best place!)

I'm beginning to question my value-judgements!

I'll happily discuss my gender identity with more or less anyone, it doesn't make me feel embarrassed and I'm more than happy to answer questions about it. I'm also not embarrassed by bodily functions. I have a good friend who isn't too well and spends an inordinate amount of time discussing his diarrhoea! Once again, no embarrassment from my side (nearly put 'from my end' there but then thought better of it! ;) ) I also seem to have become something of a sexual counsellor to many of my friends (goodness knows why they ask me but they do!), not a shred of embarrassment within me.

However...

If someone comes round to my house, I hide my Kenny Rogers CD's... :D

Why? Erm, because I'm embarrassed by them! 😄

Am I the only one who has a peculiar relationship with the concept of embarrassment?

Come on now, I want to hear your 'Kenny Rogers moments' please ...

Well, I've created an online poll to pull you out from the woodwork (please don't take it seriously!) :

Here's the link but, be warned, I'll post the results!!

Embarrassment Poll (http://www.freesurveysonline.com/fso/As ... eckID=9486)

It's anonymous so you can be safe in the knowledge that your peculiarities will remain private!

Well, thank you for taking advantage of my weaknesses! However, the very fact that you know where the inflections go in that line indicates to me that you're not a stranger to the song yourself! ;)

It's very interesting that one or two answers are turning out to be the most popular. I'll let it run for a couple of days and then post the results!

PS If you fill it out clicking on all the answers for each question, I'll disqualify you on the grounds that you're incapable of making a decision! ;) :D

The list of things which embarrass people is, indeed, very telling ... 👁️‍🗨️

Well, ok, here are the results.

You have to bear in mind two things; firstly, the server of the online survey company crashed on Sunday and was offline for about 28 hours. Some results were lost. They have apologised (good for them!) Secondly, as I gave the option for people to choose more than one answer, I've had to scale the percentages to reflect the fact that some people chose more than one answer (so don't come crying to me that the percentages don't add up to 100%!). Anyone who chose every single answer for every single question was disqualified because I'm a nasty kind of person.

Here they are :

Where are you from?

The USA or Canada 68.4%

Europe 26.3%

Asia 2.6%

Australia 2.6%

Musically, I am embarrassed by ...

Country Music 10.5%

The teletubbies CD's 26.3%

The Spice Girls 15.8%

Opera 2.6%

Musicals 5.3%

Anything by Gene Pitney 10.5%

I'm never embarrassed by my musical tastes, I prefer to think of myself as having eclectic tastes 60.5%

In my everyday life, I am embarrassed by ...

People who wear sandals 5.4%

People who wear white socks with black shoes 16.2%

People who think that tennis wear is fashionable 16.2%

People who think that joke neck ties are amusing 24.3%

I'm never embarrassed by anyone, I prefer to think of them as 'challenged' 59.5%

I consider myself to be

Totally bigotted 18.9%

Open to new views 45.9%

Always right 24.3%

A great, fun person to be around 16.2%

A bit deluded 18.9%

I like reading books by or about

Jackie Collins 5.4%

Shakespeare 10.8%

The teletubbies 0.0%

Someone I've never heard of but who gets reviews in good literary papers 8.1%

I read anything and everything 51.4%

I have lots of different books, the ones I read in private and those I leave out on the coffee table for everyone to see (but which I've never actually read) 43.2%

In general, I consider myself to be

Very well-informed about everything 40.5%

A bit of an imbecile 10.8%

Friendly but not very bright 8.1%

Sexy but stupid 0.0%

Sexy and well-informed 21.6%

I do not consider myself to be anything as, to do so, would mean that I was subject to other people's rules 29.7%

My favourite colour is

Red 13.5%

Blue 29.7%

White 0.0%

Black 8.1%

Another Colour 35.1%

I don't choose to prefer any colour as I believe in equal opportunities for colours 18.9%

My perfect dinner party would have these guests

Shakespeare 27.8%

Posh Spice 11.1%

Al Gore 22.2%

Dr Faust 25.0%

No-one, I would dine alone as I'd be too embarrassed to ask anyone else in case they didn't show up 13.9%

God 41.7%

My next-door-neighbour/s 41.7%

I would invite anyone who happened to be passing 11.1%

You have discovered that your next-door-neighbours are swingers, what do you do?

Move 2.7%

Ask for an invite 24.3%

Ring up the local newspaper 0.0%

Think to yourself 'it's ok, they're entitled to do whatever they like so long as it doesn't affect me' 62.2%

Feel rather excited 27.0%

Feel embarrassed 5.4%

The final question was open, people could write one line to answer, some people wrote too much and so were cut off in their prime! Many respondents chose not to answer the final question at all. As a result of this, only the answers which came through in full are included :

What things make you feel embarrassed? You can have ONE line to write down your embarrassments, if you need more than one line, consider therapy instead of an online poll.

Not much.

Debt

Singing

naked

body hair

my truck

conservati (I'm guessing this was meant to be 'conservatives')

nothing

sex

nada

enemas

family

gender id!

stupidness

comedies

Americans

tiny penis

cryimg

shitting

loud drunk

pee stains

erections

bedwetting

So, there you have it!

Thanks, of course, go to all those people who both humoured me and brightened up an otherwise very boring Sunday afternoon! :)
