skivvynine (imported) wrote: Tue Jan 09, 2007 10:36 amThere have been times I get going on a story that has multiple parts when the author just does not finish the story. I am not going to name any names or stories, but I would like for the authors to finish their stories. Has anyone else had the same problem?

My first question would be: do you write the authors telling them you enjoy the stories? Most people don't. I might receive 7000 hits on a story and not receive a single compliment. I write for my own enjoyment. If I had to depend on feedback from readers on this site for gratification, I would have given up a long time ago. I've written several long stories and have finished all but one. Shit happens when one is writing a long story. He may lose interest -- sometimes because of no feedback -- or something else, external to the story -- even authors on this site have lives -- might come up, preventing him from getting back to the story.
I've received close to a million hits on my stories and websites and have yet to earn a cent on any of them. I'm not doing it to make money, but, given the remarkable lack of feedback from readers, I don't particularly take such complaints as this seriously. Like they say, "You get what you pay for," and when you're not paying anything -- not even a simple email to say, "thanks," you can't expect much. Unless you're sending those emails thanking the authors for their stories, you certainly have no business complaining at all.
Believe it or not, compliments work. I just started a story because someone paid me a compliment on the boards.
Also, this has just been discussed in the following thread: here (http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1387)
I wonder why your first post on this story board is one that complains about unfinished stories rather than one that compliments some author on a story he wrote. Until I see some of those other posts, I'm certainly not going to take this one seriously.

Re: Unfinished Stories
my link works. i wrote one story in 3 parts but each was complete at the end and the next was kind of a sequal of sorts. hey they were written at work, what am i supposed to do? leave them on a computer there? some concideration needs to go to the poor soul writing his guts out (for as Slammr so accurately pointed out) absolutely nothing more than to see the piece posted where someone else can get some enjoyment from it.
we need more authors and more positive feedback. thats how it is supposed to work. Thank You all that contribute. from all of us that read the stories!
(from an occasional author and beeeeeeeg fan!)

when a link on the story is dead - how many different email addresses have we all had? - come here and post on the forms - Author Feedback. That is why it is there. It also lets everyone else know about a story.

Whereas I love to receive emails from my readers, I particularly enjoy seeing comments about my stories posted on this board. There have been at least four email addresses and websites associated with my stories during the four years I've been posting them. All but the most recent are no longer valid.
Re: Unfinished Stories
IE has also posted on the boards and the index page that the links contained in the stories themselves no longer work. Given the overhaul of EA, it's unlikely that they ever will again. The feedback links used to bring you in here, but those don't all work either, now. Besides, it didn't help then either.
