Eunuch Holiday
I would like to propose adopting a date for a Eunuch Holiday. A day to celebrate our uniqueness and each other. We could choose one of the Hijras' holidays or pick one of our own. All eunuchs be they voluntary, birth or medical necessity and of course our friends and supporters could enjoy the day. I do not think Hallmark will create a card but I do think we need to celebrate ourselves. We are a good group of people.

Re: Eunuch Holiday
I think that's an awesome idea Tugon!! Though we need to decide when would be best
According to one source (http://www.thingsasian.com/goto_article ... .1734.html):
The high point of every eunuch's life is the annual festival at Koovagam, a small village 200 miles south of Madras. On Chitrai Purnima, the new year of the Tamil lunar calendar, the sleepy little village becomes a hive of activity as hijras from all over the country converge for a 'ceremony of marriage and subsequent widowhood'. And according to one (http://www.indiayogi.com/content/full_moon_festival/) or two (http://members.tripod.com/%7Ejennifer_p ... endar.html) other sources, this is around April-May of each year, though the time may vary because they are using a different calendar to ours.
I think it was May 10th this year.
Hehe maybe we should pick a date around then in the Western calendar that holds some significance? Amalgamate it with some Pagan festival such as Easter which is also connected with fertility and occurs around that time of year?
Or we could just choose December 25th LOL I don't know, but definitely sounds like a great idea!

I vote for July 27.

I was going to ask why and I looked down next to the scissors.

How about the Spring or Fall equinox?
Re: Eunuch Holiday
Something from a religion involving eunuchs to begin with, a special day from that belief, would be a good idea.

Re: Eunuch Holiday
One western holiday that has great significance for eunuchs would be March 24, Dies sanguinis a day of mourning, fasting and abstinence commemorating the sorrow of the Great Mother of the Gods for Attis. The frenzied dance and self-laceration of the priests in commemoration of Attis' deed, and the submission to the act of consecration by candidates for the priesthood, was a special feature of the day. The final act of consecration was their self-castration.
Theres quite a bit of information on the faith centered on the Great Mother of the Gods, also known as Cybele and many other regional names. A good starting point is the Wikipedia article
Great Mother of the Gods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Mother_of_the_Gods).
Her followers were among the major competitors to early Christianity. (The followers of Mithra were the other major competition.) The Vatican was sited to cover the most important of the temples to the Great Mother of the Gods. This would make St. Peters Square one of the most sacred places for eunuchs in the world.

I vote for Dies sanguinis. A day of abstinence from sexuality would be a good day to celebrate our choice of becoming eunuchs.
