So what did you have to do in order to get Androcur prescribed? I think you went and asked your urologist to be castrated, and then got referred to a psychologist, but the psychologist wasn't ready to recommend surgical castration, but you got Androcur?

Re: Androcur
Spot on. My psychologist said at this time he wasnt ready to recomend me for castrstion. He recomended using androcur but eventually castration would be an option - after a second opinion and my wifes consent

Re: Androcur
Hi Niki, I've been on NHS prescribed Androcur at your rate since Oct 2002.
I didn't see anyone other than first the Urologist and also my Dr.
If you have any questions which you think I may be able to help with, please ask. Obviously I can only speak from my own experience.
One golden rule that I am 99.99% certain you know of already - do not drink
ANY alcohol at all now, it would dilute any beneficial effect of the drug and give you serious liver problems. On the other hand, stopping drinking has for me, actually improved my liver health.
Good luck, obviously important questions you should take up with your Dr.
but please ask away if you wish.

Re: Androcur
I have noticed that the spontanous erections pretty much disappeared for me in the first week, but I was still able to get hard and off by stoking for a while with 100mg a day. The desire to get off also seemed to disappear for the most part after the first week, I still had a craving to be with others but no sex.
Although for the last couple of weeks I have had morning erections again, but I think that is more because of the side effects of Paxil. My desire to have sex is still gone.
But again everyone will have their own experience as everyone is different.

Hello, dear.
It can take six to eight weeks for the erections to cease. The instructions that come with the box actually state that one should start at a high dose. Then after several weeks, when it has become effective, reduce dosage gradually to a maintenance dosage. See:
http://home.intekom.com/pharm/schering/androc50.html
Generally, treatment is started with 1 tablet twice daily. It may be necessary to increase the dose to 2 tablets twice daily, or even 2 tablets three times daily for a short period of time. If a satisfactory result is achieved, one should try to maintain the therapeutic effect with the lowest possible dose. 50 mg per day may be adequate in some patients. When establishing the maintenance dose or when discontinuing the preparation, one should not reduce the dosage abruptly, but gradually. To this end, the daily dose should be reduced by 1 tablet, or better half a tablet, at intervals of several weeks.
To stabilise the therapeutic effect it is necessary to take Androcur over a protracted period of time
Back in the dark days when I had a weenie, I started with 200 mg/day. By seven weeks, it was effective. I gradually dropped down to 100 mg/day.
Hugs,
Kelly

Re: Androcur
Niki, my earnest advice is to you is to stick to the regime that your Dr prescribed for you. A lot of personal factors determine the dosage you are prescribed and as with prescribed drug anytime NEVER take a higher dosage than you have been advised.
At first, I found that Androcur actually activated erections and a desire to orgasm I was amazed by this, but this was a very short term period of around 2 weeks during which all semen in me was removed. As soon as that happened the Androcur trgiggered the erections to disappear in a flash, at once and permanently. Clearly during the early days your body is becoming aware of the changes going on and that explained why the drug induced such a change to me. Please stick at the rate you have been prescribed - your Dr and pharmacy will be aware if you ask for more drugs than you ought to have
and neither will be amused with you. Expect some fatigue to hit you quite hard quite soon and take more time to rest and sleep and if you suddenly feel a serious wave of exhaustion occur do not consider driving or using any other machinery. Hot flashes/Flushes will also occur at night and you will find yourself soaking in sweat; not so much fun but the erections and the semen will both cease and also the desire for sex. Take note of the leaflet with your drugs and remember your Dr's advice. Enjoy the new fun, safely!
