Brain Chemistry and Libido

Post by An Onymus (imported) »

It has always seemed puzzling to me, that a number of archive members have had orchiectomy, or have gone on androcur or depo-provera, because of "uncontrollable libido." Most men who appear to have normal testosterone levels, or even elevated testosterone levels, don't seem to experience libido at that level. So, I have to wonder if there is some exceptionally high susceptibility to the effects of testosterone, in the brains of a small percentage of men, a susceptibility which produces unusually strong libido in them. In other words, it seems possible that a specific combination of brain properties, and testosterone levels, produces an extremely strong libido, rather than high testosterone levels alone. Has anyone seen any research reports on this possibility?

To be quite honest, I thought that most men had high libidos and thought about sex every sixty seconds, and that it was considered normal for them to be that way. But, some are not comfortable with it and fix it.

As sag111 says, life without T is wonderful.

Hugs,

Kelly :)

I think that libido is high in most men (just look at the success of the porn industry), but like others have said some of us were uncomfortable with the constant sexual urges.

However, there also seems to be a relationship of libido with seratonin. SSRI type anti-depressants have a common "side effect" of greatly reduced libido. Celexa really helped me -- I was able to quickly control my obsessively sexualized behavior within days of starting Celexa. For example I went from having a $500/week prostitution habit to having not visited a prostitute in three years. It was a remarkable change for me.

I suggest before getting castration that those with libido control problems seek a psychiatrist that can help with sexually obsessive behavior. Most should steer toward SSRI type regimens, and if not you can certainly ask about them.

Well, don't forget to ask about the many nasty side effects that SSRI type regimens can produce. It has been my experience that most psychiatrists are useless when it comes to dealing with sexual obsexssive behavior. (Opinion.)

All that I have read on the subject confirms. FOR ME, if for nobody else, that beings castrated by Dr. Spector was the best, and in the long term most economical, solution for me. I have zilch regrets at my decision.
