chances for eunuch to have kids

Post by Fen (imported) »

Now the testicles has the same DNA as all of your body, particularly something like a cheek cell that can be harvested easily. What are the chances that a sperm could be made by tricking the cheek cell to become a sperm producing cell? Sounds like the science may be there but the usual airbag ethicists/moralists are stinking up the scene.

Any ideas? Maybe a more likely route would be to just clone a testicular cell off a stem cell and have that produce sperm?

There was a thread related to this topic a couple of months ago titled “Ova from Stem Cells”

http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthr ... eadid=3220

The original journalistic text is included a few items down the thread, but the gist of it is that biologists have managed to create eggs from stem cells of BOTH male and female mice.

This raises interesting questions beyond what was posed here. It the technology works on humans (no reason it wouldn’t) it would be possible for a gay couple to have a child with one member providing the egg created from a stem cell and the other partner providing the sperm. They’d have to find a surrogate mother, but that’s already common enough.

The technology would allow a eunuch to provide an egg - or with further research, very probably, a sperm cell. Think of the wonderful new combinations of parenthood that would be possible.

If you think the Fundamentalists are in a snit about cloning now….

Well to continue the line, you have to mention artificial wombs, which were explored about a year ago. But this looks promising. Does this influence anyone's choice to castrate?

And to appease the windbags, there are very "normal" reasons to want to have kids after testicular cancer or whatever.
