>>The discovery channel has THE BIG BRAIN THEORY which is a competition program to see who is a good engineer and team leader to create or discover or devise various solutions to engineering problems.
I like the idea but the show is paced slow and kind of sucks the life out of the room.
This is a bit like the old "junkyard dogs" shows where two teams built strange things and then competed. At least in the dumbness of those shows they had announcers who kept things moving and interesting.
IT's much better than most repeats. At least (As an engineer) I think about the solutions and do a mental thumbs up or down on them.

I think you mean Junkyard Wars.

I stopped watching Junkyard Wars after I saw about six episodes because I decided that too much of the outcome depended on how lucky the teams were to find the right materials in the junkyard.

Yes, Junkyard Wars. I got the name wrong.
And yes, it depended on the material in the junkyard but I mostly overlooked that.
Using the materials at hand or the found materials was part of the game.
That's another difference between BIG BRAIN and Junkyard Wars -- one of them doesn't pretend to be serious endeavor.
Don't let this stop anyone from watching BIG BRAIN. Remember, I was the 9 year old with the dream of being a chemical engineer that grew up to be a chemical engineer.

YAY!!! Someone else remembers "Junkyard Wars!" That was like my favorite show in the world in high school while I was still an engineering student.

I remember it but I don't think I watched more then a couple shows. However a show just like that from the UK was Robot Wars, we loved that show.

My best friend since 1968 is trained in post graduate biological sciences as I am. An unmentionable profession.
We both think "independently" from the dogma although we went to different grad schools.
We both have/had fathers who were "engineers".
And we both know how even brains as big as ours & our fathers can process so differently.
Engineers are unique brains. They generally don't "get" biology. Too undisciplined and random in its workings. Yet biology is more efficient then anything an engineer can design. Go figure -
