M Knight Shyamalama-ding-dong to wreck two more Hollywood careers?

"After Earth"

starring Wil Smith and Jaden Smith

7 June 2013

After a crash landing, a father and son explore a planet that was evacuated by humans 1,000 years earlier. Turns out, that planet is Earth. I think.

What I want to know is how in hell did the Smiths hook up with this loser?!

Guilliermo Del Toro spoke at the "Butt Numb-a-thon" at Ain't It Cool News and while he was talking about his new movie PACIFIC RIM, he made some startling statements.

First was that this was the first time it was "his" movie where he was the money man with no one over him like a producer or investor.

Second, he said this was the first time that no one "gave" or "handed" him a list of stars to pick for the roles. Most Directors only get to pick the stars that the producers and money people want and those decisions always compromise the movie.

Third, if you listen close, he's designing the entire production to his taste and his dream.

I suspect that someone wrote a treatment for AFTER EARTH, someone changed it because they supplied the money, and a third person or group picked the available stars.

Not excusing the result. I watched that trailer and thought it a nice, action filled, video game.

Hell, I thought BATTLESHIP was stupid but fun to watch late at night.

Other than "Happyness", I've never meet a Wil Smith vehicle that I didn't like, but I'm not risking this one!

Not every actor hit a winner every movie, they all lay an egg sometimes, but this one has the making for a good action flick. not a great one, but much better then that other looser you posted tonight where everybody dies.

...they must have picked up the script from a homeless person who rescued it from a shredder bin at MGM and sold it for food.

Wil Smith hasn't made a decent film since Happyness. Now, he's becoming king of sequels with MIB III and the announcement of Hancock II, Bad Boys III and I, Robot II. I did read about an interesting film he's making with Russell Crowe, A Winter's Tale.

As for little Smith, he was decent in Happyness but sucked big time in the crappy re-makes of The Day The Earth Stood Still and The Karate Kid.

I honestly have to confess, I was looking at IMDB to see if Jaden was 18 yet! He's not, but damn, it looks like he's gonna be one FINE young man.
