Old Folks Growing Weed

London (CNN) -- British police have decided not to press any charges against the elderly couple who had been unknowingly cultivating a huge cannabis plant in their garden.

The plant was seized Monday in Bedfordshire, central England. The police later posted a picture on Twitte (http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/09/world/eur ... google_cnn)r with comments: "Elderly couple bought shrub at car boot sale," adding that it was the "biggest cannabis plant we had seen!!"

The police picture posted on Twitter shows a fully grown shrub with thick foliage in the front garden.

A police spokeswoman told CNN: "The plant was mistakenly bought by the elderly couple. We will not be pressing any charges. We have seized it and will dispose it." She also said that unlike what has been reported in some newspapers there was no "raid."' "The property was not raided," she said.

The police tweet, however, led to many comical reactions including on newspapers sites that carried the story. A Mail Online reader commented: "Don't buy 'pot' plants at car boot sales! Simples." (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... l?ITO=1490)

Cannabis is classified as a Class B drug in Britain under the Misuse of Drugs Act. The maximum penalty for supplying or producing cannabis is 14 years imprisonment and/or unlimited fine.

The cannabis plant has psychoactive compounds with mood and behavior-altering properties. The plant is used both for making recreational drugs and medicine. Organized crime gangs have often used in-house cannabis farms to produce the high-strength "skunk" version of the drug.

I've been told they are conical when they grow large and very much like a Christmas tree.

Also, they are fragrant and smell like wonderful flowers.

I've also been told that for a very mature plant, the bottom stem in like hard wood and hollow like a reed. SO it forms a natural pipe to enjoy the young tender tits.

My parents once did almost the same, accidentally. Except they planted remains from parrot food out of curiosity, but results were... grand, to say the least. By the time parents found out, what exactly they were growing, the plant (or plants, do not remember well, it was long ago) was about 1.7m high. Yes, that was outside, and no, police was not involved, thankfully.

Those seeds could have been "industrial" hemp seeds.

Russia would do well to cultivate an industrial hemp industry and market to the west. :)

canvas = cannabis don'tchyaknow .

Good for rope, cord, fabrics, etc.

The nutritional qualities of the oil are enjoying a "good for you" press, similar to chocolate.

fhunter. How in the Marijuana use in Russia? Hashish? 🙏

American bird seed is radiated to make it sterile.

But corn still sprouts under my bird feeder.

Plus I do believe it is the low THC, high fiber, industrial variety seeds you have.

G'luck 🚬

Wrong.

I grow sunflowers and other odd things out of outdoor bird seed all the time. This year, my best sunflowers came out of the bird seed bag.

And yes, we have had cockatiel food sprout things.

But, ( )0( )

I did say the corn sprouts through the precaution and now say,

so does some other weedy stuff too.

Yes but the hemp seeds are supposed to be sterilized by radiation; it's well known that some get by, but its not the high potency variety. Nowadays it easy to get potent seeds, either from abroad or from states that have legalized medical marijuana. I suspect if legalized they will be popular house plants. They are beautiful and easy to grow. (Plus useful) Since Washington has legal medical pot, I am considering growing a couple of plants openly in my living room. A few decades ago I grew several crops in the attic of my houseboat here, and it would be fun to grow my own again.
