Job activity here seems to be increasing a bit. Beyond the Twin Cities, I may be offered a 4-month contract in Bloomington, IL (NB: not the Bloomington with the Mall of Death!). This one would be a bit outside my usual job path, but I'd consider it for two reasons:

1. I'd be working again!

2. I'd be getting back closer to Chicago
Arab Nights (imported) wrote: Sat Aug 18, 2012 3:46 pm Just not sure it's the best idea, though.

Go for it!! I read some great advice once: Read obituaries. You learn that the most
interesting lives are not linear affairs.

Good luck.

For now, I'll need to stay in the Twin Cities metro. I'm in major pain this evening. [I was over researching my 'condition' on the web - mostly looking for coping mechanisms - and found a UK support site that pictured cactus spines and flames, both of which describe how my pelvis is reacting right now!] I was doing great all weekend, then BAM! By Sunday evening, I just wanted to lie in bed.

I may need to see my physcial therapist again. It can be difficult to find one who knows how to work with my condition. I can't risk being in a small metro area with no help nearby. Chicago would be too distant.

Still have hope that one day I
Danya (imported) wrote: Sat Aug 18, 2012 5:14 pm can move wherever I want. Anyway, my life has been pretty non-linear so far. I'd like to keep it that way, too.

I'm also applying f
or an even more divergent career path at my undergraduate college. I'll finish that application this weekend.

This option is out. The job may require travel around the country. Can't risk worsening this @#!%@! pelvic pain. Someday, I will have put most of this behind me. At least I hope so.

Had a very good interview today for a job that slated to run a year but the hope is it will become permanent. The pay would likely be well below what I've been getting, but I'm fine with that. The job is still in my field. I will hand deliver thank you notes tomorrow.

I just received an email about a science job in suburban Chicago. I'm more than qualified for it, so I am going to pursue it.

My pelvic pain is almost gone today. I will enjoy this while it lasts as I know from experience it will be back. I'm still discovering the best ways to minimize it.

Hi River!

Thanks for the encouragement. :)

Things on the job front have really picked up this week. I don't know if it's the start of a trend. Time will tell. I'm getting multiple calls from recruiters both here and in Chicagoland. This afternoon, I made a terrific, and unexpected, networking connection. There is a good possibility this will lead to a job, or at least other great career connections.

Anyway, I'm starting to view this job search as another adventure. I might have gotten to this point sooner were it not for my pelvic pain. Adventure is a very good thing. I feel more alive and in charge.

I've been giving casual through to starting a new thread in the 'Life Stories' section. I probably can't stay sufficiently motivated to keep it going. Another stumbling block is deciding on a fitting title. I came up with a few ideas tonight. :)

I just watched “A Little Bit of Heaven” on Netflix. The film, apparently originally entitled “Earthbound,” was released in early 2011 to abysmal ratings. I was able to watch it only by dividing it into three-night segments. By the end, though, I was in tears. Those have been a very difficult feat for me since I switched to Zoloft before surgery last year. The ability to cry, whether over a beautiful piece of music or a gorgeous sunset, is something I miss.

The main character discovers early on that she is terminally ill, and dies by the movie’s end. I related to her, but only because she found love before here untimely demise. I miss love in my life, in a serious relationship sort of way.

Title thoughts for a new thread:

My Life, the Sequel – Tales from the Beyond

I Can’t “Cry Me a River” – But I’d Like To

“I’d Do Anything for Love” – Except Those Things I Wouldn’t

I'm in stitches over my first idea! The last two just aren't very catchy. :)

I kind of like the first one, its sort of the twilight zone feeling which seems to be what you have been through.

As always I wish you the very best and hope that job finds you real soon,

Hugs, River

You're right, River. I do feel like I've been living in the twilight zone these last few years. :) Thanks, friend, for your kind words.

On the job front, while I wait to hear next steps (if any) for four openings, I'm continuing to aggressively seek more opportunities. All I'll say about one of these is that it's in ND and that the airfare from Bismarck to Minneapolis/St Paul is currently $100 greater than from Bismarck to Chicago! At least both are non-stop flights. For some reason, the non-stop flights are less expensive than others.

I had four interviews today, three by phone. I drove to Minneapolis for the fourth, at an agency. They assured me that the market will really pick up after Labor Day. I hope they're right!

I was just offered a new job in my career path at a local univeristy. I won't start for another month, but I am thrilled. This is a very long-term assignment with excellent benefits and possibilities, too! :)
