I'm sure this book has been discussed here before. However I did a search & didn't find it so I'll start it all over again.
Has anyone read the book Castration: The Advantages and the Disadvantages? If so, what was your thoughts on it? Is it worth the $20 Amazon wants for it with shipping?
Also, has anyone read any similar books that you'd recommend?
Thanks!

The general consensus here is it's written by some a-hole hack, and the paper it's printed on is only useful for lighting fires or wiping asses.
I wouldn't waste your money on it.

Re: Book: Castration: The Advantages and the Disadvantages
The author is Victor Cheney who started to research castration as a way to prevent recidivism in sex offenders, but then because he himself was castrated due to prostate cancer, began to explore castration and it's effects on men in the late 70's. I think Cheney looked for information and wrote about what he found out about castration because he was so curious, probably because of the changes he experienced after being castrated. We're so much more fortunate than he was, he didn't have the resources or the internet when he started to research castration. I have only read articles that Cheney wrote and found some of it enlightening, useful, beneficial. Should you buy the book? It's up to you, you can probably find just as much on castration right on the internet today with a little research. Cheney, in my opinion was a pioneer on the subject when not much was available.
Saw another book on Amazon called, "Castration Celebration" by Jake Wizner and read a few of the free pages, now I'm curious about reading the whole thing. Anyone read this book? They actually discuss castration.

Re: Book: Castration: The Advantages and the Disadvantages
Victor Cheney was of the Golly-Gee-Whiz school of research. If it was written down anywhere, it must be true. He read widely and his bibliographies are great finding tools for the published literature on castration. However, everything he found is all mashed together in his writing, accurate or not.
He was a very nice person, dedicated to his materials gathering. And, he gathered a large collection of obscure materials on castration and eunuchs. His personal library on castration is now at the Kinsey Institute in Bloomington, Indiana, where it is still in the process of being catalogued.
You would not find his book useful, though you might find it very interesting to read.
Jake Wizners novel Castration Celebration is listed in the Fiction section of the Bibliography (http://www.eunuch.org/forums/showthread ... bliography) that is on the Non-Fiction Articles board. The brief description of it listed there is
A YOUNG ADULT novel about a group of high school students creating a musical with the title Castration Celebration. No castration involved, but it opens with the heroine/writer sitting in a courtyard typing a list of genital-based rhymes on her laptop: menstruation, masturbation, elongation, lubrication, penetration, stimulation, fornication, copulation, urination, ejaculation, insemination. It ends with the concluding lines of her play:
BIFF: Id fuck a sheep before Id fuck another guy.
SLUGGO: I know you would, Biff. I know you would.

Re: Book: Castration: The Advantages and the Disadvantages
There is another book by V. T. Cheney and thread:
It appears, that he ws already 87 when this book was published in 2006. It might be more interesting to read. I didn't know he had passed away.

Re: Book: Castration: The Advantages and the Disadvantages
I purchased the book a few months back, I have found it a difficult read, I have got in to I think the 2nd chapter, the charts I have come across are hard to follow and decipher, but that just may be me. The book is still on my book shelf and I dont know if I will ever open again, I guess if I'm really, really having a hard time sleeping I may use it as a sleep aid.
Ken,
P.S. Should some one wish to read this, I will send it, just cover shipping and its yours.

Re: Book: Castration: The Advantages and the Disadvantages
I have a book (paperback version) titled "CASTRATION, An abbreviated history of Western Manhood" by Gary Taylor. I read it once and it is like new. An interesting but rather studious book. I will send this free to someone here, if they will read it on arrival and send it on to another interested EA member. Let me know via private message.
