Delmonico's Restaurant 1834

Post by MacTheWolf (imported) »

I'm not sure if this classifies as humor or just a longing for the past.

At New York City's Delmonico's Restaurant they had a daily special consisting of: soup, steak, coffee and a half a pie for the outrageous price

of 12 cents.

or in 1963 when you could get a cheese burger, fries and coke for under a buck at McDonald's. I understand that they have now sold billions and billions, I wonder if they are on that second cow yet?

Mac I know your old, but who did you have lunch with? I know it was not me, that was way way before my time.

In 1970, when I stayed in the dorms, the Choke and Puke wagon that schlepped between dorm buildings served Chilled GRease and Choke, putrid fries and stale pizza made two days before. Don't even ask what passed as a hoagie. It once might have resembled something living on this planet.

That makes me appreciate a good Delmonico steak with baked potato and all the trimmings regardless of the price...

One place I where I had worked was visited by a catering truck we would affectionately call the roach coach.

Yeah Mac, and with a weeks work your kids might earn enough to pay for it .

I once frequented a place know as "Burger and Flies", it wasn't one of my favorites.

MacWolf, is it true that you special ordered a Birthday cake for yourself but they could not deliver because they ran out of Birthday candles and space to put them?

Back in the late 70s there was this country store north of Lafollete, TN where we would get a baloney and cheese sandwich and one of those big glass bottles of RC. It wasn't an RC and a moon pie, but the baloney was cut about 1/4" thick and the whole thing cost under a buck.
