Battle Los Angeles

Battle Los Angeles

This is the "aliens invade earth" film that starts with meteors falling into the ocean and a marine platoon is called into battle the alien invasion.

It's a war film and a good one at that. Hits all the right notes -- guns, explosions, blood and guts.

It's doesn't have a fun and silly streak once the action starts. It's a war and we are with the fighters.

Yes, why do the Aliens attack Los Angeles, why not Bomb Detroit.

The plot is that the aliens are using water as fuel and they land in the oceans near the biggest cities so they can establish beachheads and wipe out the local populations. then they will drain the earth of water.

LA is bigger than San Diego or San Francisco.

The Aliens must be republicans, they don't want to share either. :D

Although its one big city from the boarder up through Ventura just west of LA, (even though you get there on 101 north).

How are the Aliens?

Predator type? Or Independence Day type space roaches? Great looking V's?

Sounds like it is short on story and long on

CGI <ugh> 🤮 Ban the blue screen! Or require the percent of CGI in the movie be stated for health benefits.

Moi, making movies is all about the blue screen, you would not have one if it were not so.

No it's not short on story. It's not dependent on CGI.

In fact, that is what SCI FI should be -- the telling of a story that could exist without the science. The fantastical SCI FI Elements should enhance the story not be the story.

It's about the Aaron Eckhart character and how he leads a group of rather green soldiers (for battles against aliens) to success. It's could be WW2 against a Nazi Invasion or be set in Iraq or Afghanistan yesterday. As the story is set up, aliens invade adn want to wipe out the human race.

---

Let me give you an example: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/50254

THat is the picture of the day on AINT IT COOL NEWS and as you can plainly see, they were filming models for effects back in 1996 when Independence Day was released. Today, that shot would be CGI but back then, it wasn't.

The point being, you don't need the blue screen for a good SCI FI movie. You need a good sory for a good SCI FI movie.

Bipedal, armored aliens, drone gun ships and a huge-assed C&C ship that gets blown apart.

It is true, a good story trumps good CGI every time. So many of the Sci-fi stories are bad because the story is bad and no amount of special effects will change that. Then again sometimes they take a great book, and totally screw it over add some special effects and make it a series missing the whole point of the original book. Star Ship Troopers comes to mind.
