In my ongoing commentaries about movies, here are three shorts:
1) ARSENIC AND OLD LACE
It was on the TV and Cary Grant overacted the entire farce but that's OK because IT IS A FARCE. If you've never seen this, please do. It's such silly fun.
2) IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD
This was the short version for TV. I remember seeing this in CINERAMA at the theater and as a kid just sitting there laughing at the "descent of man" into greed.
3) HIGH SOCIETY
For the music and Grace Kelly. Also, it's the only filmed duet between Sinatra and Crosby.
4) CATS
Ovation had it on and Ovation channel does weird things like running a movie two or three times in a row. Good Lord I forgot just how tedious musicals can be when they get old. Sorry to all you cat lovers but all that onscreen is just awful. But when my body is aching and I have to drink two pitchers of water before I go to bed (don't ask) CATS is better than some of the tripe that appears on the TV.
A FUTURE NOTE:
They are talking about HANGOVER #3...
Now If a friend ever drugged me and put me through a night of debauch and squander and misbehaving like I saw in HANGOVER #1, would I ever go on another vacation with that friend again? Would I ever talk to that friend (and I use the word loosely) again? Or Would I beat the shit out of that so-called friend and leave him for dead on the side of the highway?
Sorry, I seem to gone postal there...

Re: STABS from the past (movies)
Thursday night (9 June 2011) OVATION channel is screening the original LA CAGE AUX FOLLES (the French version).
I showed this to my Mother and had to read most of the subtitles out loud for her but it is still a sweet movie and a funny farce of a movie.

One of my favorite Carry Grant movies, I own a copy.

I saw this with my gf at a theater they built just for this movie, we laughed from the time Jimmy Durante kicked the bucket until intermission, where we caught our breath then laughed until Ethel Merman slipped on the bannana peel at the very end of the movie. It was spontaneous slap stick from start to end. It was never as funny the second time but if you have never seen it, get the full copy and grab your funny bone.

Never seen it but I am sure I would like it.

This one I will pass on, as I did the first two, the second is still in the theaters, oh well.

Re: STABS from the past (movies)
Tomorrow my son and I are going to see the newest installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, Johnny Depp doing what he does best. I will let you know.
Another couple movies we would like to see is the new X man movie and Thor. Marvel is making a ton of money.

The origonals of
"How to succeed in business" and "cabaret".
And I will always have a fond spot for the origonal of "The Thing" which I saw as a kid and then had to walk home in the dark.

Re: STABS from the past (movies)
The original "THE THING" or the first remake by John Carpenter with Kurt Russell. The original THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD was good but not scary. Carpenter's THE THING is still scary.
Show it to a sleepover of little girls and see what happens...
