Bring back Torchwood
Bring back Firefly, Dresden Files, Dark Skies, John Doe and Strange Luck. I have probably forgotten some.

I forget just how far out of it I am about pop culture until something like this thread makes it very obvious. I read this and realized that I have never seen a single episode of any show mentioned. I have a big screen w/ cable, but the only shows I watch regularly are Jeopardy and Cash Cab, a few cooking shows on the Food Network and PBS, National Geographic channel and the Hitler Channel, and occasionally the Mentalist (which I caught by accident and got a bit hooked) I like to turn the sound off and put the TV on the golf channel and treat the TV as a big window. I have more than my share of vices, but TV isn't one.

Re: Canceled
Keep at least TWO Star Trek franchises in current production!
And of course renew "V" for a story conclusion.

Bring back Torchwood
Torchwood is back. Well, at least sortof.
There's a new Torchwood miniseries starting up in July, but this one was done by Starz. Russell T Davies is in charge, Captain Jack and Gwen will both be back, but there's no way to know how it will compare to the rest of the series so far.
This time around, the idea is that people suddenly stop dying. They don't stop aging, getting injured or sick, or being born, they just stop dying.
Do a web search for "Torchwood: Miracle Day (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xivdwl ... shortfilms)", and you'll find a lot of information (plus the trailer the link pulls up).
If you don't get Starz, I'm not quite *cough*Internet*cough* sure how you'd *cough*torrents*cough* manage to watch *cough*usenet*cough* the series. Just like I'm not sure if I'll be watching the series, since I don't know if any Canadian station is showing it. (Yeah, right.)

Re: Canceled
Considering some of the ghastly horror written into TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH, I am afraid of what they are going to write into MIRACLE DAY.
The coldness and the bloodlessness of the ministerial decisions that were written into CHILDREN OF EARTH is going to take a bit of superbly fantastic and quite horrific writing to surpass.
And I added this: That's the type of horror that scares me and I want to see. Not the buckets of blood and entrails being thrown around a movie screen type of horror.

I have to agree there. Children of Earth was incredibly well-done. There are very few shows whose ending has pissed me off even half so much. Of course, that was their intent. There wasn't a single person in that show who wasn't almost completely morally compromised by the time the final credits rolled.
I don't know if he can top himself with this one, but I hope he can at least match what he did with Children. Of course, that does leave the question of what does he do next?

Re: Canceled
I'm actually getting to the point where I avoid getting into shows in the first place because they get cancelled. I think it first happened for me with Firefly about 10 years ago, where I started to get burned as shows would get cancelled after only one or two seasons just when I was really getting into them. That happened to me recently with shows like Flash Forward. I liked the Witches of Eastwick. And many others. And it doesn't seem to really have to do with the quality of the show either. I know the networks need to make money, and I guess they know their own business, but it seems dumb. Perhaps it's my fault for liking sci-fi as maybe it doesn't draw the audiences as well.
But by making us wary of even starting to get into new shows they are hurting themselves. They have betrayed viewer loyalty over and over.
I've actually now mostly focussed on using Netflix online to watch whole series from a few years ago. At least then you know which ones made it through multiple seasons. It also helps avoid the wait between episodes -- which is the other maddening thing the networks do where you wait for a week and then they start showing reruns and such.

I'm sold on the Netflix approach, too. You can watch the whole series one episode after the other. If I didn't like some of the cable news stations, the History channels, and certain sporting events, I'd probably do away with cable TV altogether.

If you like The Mentalist, I think you will like these shows, Criminal Minds and Lie to Me. Unfortunately, Lie to Me has been cancelled. In The Mentalist Patrick Jane reads people to solve crime. In Lie to Me Cal Lightman also reads people to solve crime. Both shows are rated 8.3 out of ten on IMDb.
You might also like NCIS and the CSI shows. I think that CSI: Miami is the poorest of the CSI shows and that the original is the best.
Here is how IMDb rates the CSI shows:
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation 8.3
CSI: Miami 6.5
CSI: NY 7.1
