whatever got into my accounting software traveled to my tax software, as well as some other stuff. obviously something that likes to eat software. ultimately, i ended up having to do a system recovery. sux

I hope that whatever it was was unable to send any of your information out. The new group of virus/malware writers are after bank information to clean out your check and savings accounts or to steak your identity and do it from out side the USA.

A very good reason to have a good suite of anti-virus software installed and running.

ughhh.....And I'm learning right now Dos commands for Win98.For a rinky dinky college course(Computer Systems) you'd think we should be up to date with Linux and Win7 but nope! .....far from it

The commands for DOS 1.1 through the present versions of Windows are the same, if you have the correct Command.com loaded. I have not played with Win 7 command prompt, but to get some of the commands to work you have to be logged in as administer.

Most of the DOS commands are basically the same as Unix/Linux command set but there some changes and different commands, depending which shell you are using.

I have Windows 7 installed. I am trying to remove an entire directoy using DOS commands through the command prompt. rmdir, rd, and deltree do not work to remove sub directories or full directories. Anyone got a clue How I can get this program gone? Program uninstall is also blocked by the same error that won't let me introduce a new version of the program or from using or removing the old one. sometimes quick books really sux. I figure just get it all out and start fresh

What program do you wish to remove? QuickBooks?

Unadvised removing an entire directory without knowing what other programs depend upon it. Is your version of QuickBooks compatible with Win-7?

Are you operating from safe-mode, or are you able to get into the PC normally?

Have you (or able to) saved you work off the PC (thumb-drive, etc)?

You should be able to re-install the broken program over the old one. Win-7 automatically fixes/cleans-up during the process.

After you re-install (if you choose that ), run a scan with Malwarebytes (or similar) to find the culprit that caused the corruption. Then run Win-updater manually.

I just had 2 instances of the hijacker.application/go.microsoft virus last week.

An investigators tip; replace the HD, and install a clean copy of Win-7. Save the old HD, and run it from a desk-top docking station. All your old files and folders (Documents) should still be readable.
