Re: The Royal Wedding Thread
OK,
Mac, you are so wrong, the Royal Wedding will generate millions of dollars of revenue for shop keepers round the world. The money spent will return 10 fold.
Not a waist of time, I myself got up at 2am and watch the history of the Royal Weddings going back to Victoria. Did you know she was the one who started the trend of brides in white dresses?
The wedding was worth staying up all night for, I fixed my self some popcorn and a coke, it was better then any movie I have seen in months.
It was everything they hipped it up to be and a bit more as billions of people round the world watched and for once it was all good news for a change.
As for the Queen, her favorite son is Charles, make no mistake about that, and when she dies if he is still alive he will be King, you can take that to the bank. From what I saw and how the British Press talked about Charles and his new wife and her relationship with William Kate and Harry is very good and you could see that if you watch the wedding.
I have thought about why do the Brits keep the Monarchy alive and I have come to a conclusion, they are the face of Great Britain, because they have them millions of tourist dollars are spent each year, the Royals are one of their biggest money generators. They earn their keep in so many ways and for it they get to live in a gilded cage. Something one Brit said that stuck with me, they the royals belong to us, not the other way around.
So I conclude that the Royals are a good thing, and the cost of keeping them is outweighed by the goodwill in services they provide.
I know its hard for us in the USA to get that excited about the royals, when we got rid of fat George so long ago, but it is their royal family and we should respect that. Plus lets face it, we love everything about the royal family and cant get enough of it, good or bad.

Re: The Royal Wedding Thread
It was nice to see a Royal Wedding where the couple looked truly in love. Instead of something they had to do for heirs. I wonder if Prince Harry will ever marry?
I heard with all the visitors and sales of memorabilia the wedding has generated for London 300,000,000. Not a bad return on the 30,000,000 spent.

Ah, yes. Memorabilia! I wonder how many are looking to find the tackiest possible souvenirs of the royal wedding. I have a great love of kitsch and have contemplated writing an academic paper about all the tacky souvenirs of Japanese tourist sites. I have quite a collection to work from….
For the royal wedding, the best souvenir that I’ve yet seen is a 3-pack of “Crown Jewels” brand condoms in a purple package with gold lettering and portraits of William and Catherine. The package states that it “Contains a triumvirate or regal prophylactics.”
Another souvenir for event watchers is a royal wedding barf bag. It comes in red or purple with line drawings of the royal couple. Above them is written “THRONE UP” and below is “keep this handy on April 29th, 2011.”
And, of course, I covet the William and Kate paper dolls. In the basic, “unclothed” versions, Kate is wearing a white chemise and white panties. William has on a white T-shirt and boxer shorts sporting the British flag. I know a lot of folks could have fun creating costumes that do not come in the package. My first thought was a feather boa for William and a Carmen Miranda hat for Kate, with bananas and oranges and maybe a pineapple on top.

Re: The Royal Wedding Thread
I really have no interest in any souvenir of the wedding, no matter what you would get it would be tacky, however I have been known to buy mugs as to remember a special time, like the two mugs I have that say Bass Pro Shop I got on the opening day in St Louis.

You'd probably like to meet my friend Hedda Perez (aka Michael). He abolutely loves to fish, though he won't date them.

So, Jesus, any souvenirs of a Japanese penis festival or one of their other odd festivals?
