Man castrates himself

Madrid - A Kazakh man cut off his penis at Madrid's Barajas airport in order to avoid being extradited home and was taken to hospital in serious condition, Spanish media reported.

The 52-year-old man had finished serving a five-year prison sentence in Spain for a violent crime and was to be extradited back to Kazakhstan overnight Monday.

Despite being escorted by several police officers, at Barajas airport the man was able to slip a knife out of his clothing and cut off his penis.

The man was admitted to a Madrid hospital and was still in a serious condition on Friday, Spanish media said. - Sapa-AFP

The headline title is wrong, "Man Castrates Himself!" NO, "Man Penectomizes Himself!" Most people don't seem to understand the difference. In fact, it was probably quicker and easier for him to cut off his penis than to castrate himself. So, will they try to reattach his penis since he was convicted of violent crimes? Should a criminal who cuts off his own penis be given the opportunity to cut it off again? Nay, nay, I don't think, but what do I know, I'm just one of a thousand eunuchs.

You are so right about that, MOST people that I have spoken to on this matter HAVE NO CLUE. It really amazes me that the average person, does no

between "castrate," and "penectomy." I see a LOT of articles about "Wife castrates drunk husband..." when NO castration is happening. Seriously, I wish I could force some sort of "royal decree" or something on all news media, a mandatory training on the MEANING of the word "castrate" and the word "penectomy."

Oh well, I think the fellow mentioned in this (MISTITLED) news item will probably be treated for mental disorders and then probably deported. I can understand why he would rather stay in Spain (a civilized E.E.U. country) over returning to his homeland. But I do not believe that the Spanish authorities are going to be more inclined to keep him in Spain just because he cut his penis off, if anything they will be in a greater hurry to get him out of Spain now.

Well, in common use the word "castrate" means to un-man someone and so anything that makes them not able to function sexually as a man can be called castration.

Of course medically the distinction is as we know it to be -- removal of testicles is castration.

I don't think most people would even know the word penectomy.
