Saudi man cuts off genital after blocked marriage plans

Man's father refused to give him permission to marry

Manama: A Saudi man has cut off his own penis after his father refused to give him permission to marry, according to a newspaper report.

The victim, in his 30s, was rushed to Taif hospital where doctors attempted to reattach the severed member amid scepticism about the chances of success for the surgery, Al Watan reported.

According to reports, the father wanted his son to have a job before he would allow him to get married.

Self-mutilations are rare in the Arab world.

In June last year, a 25-year-old Egyptian man made headlines after he heated up a knife and cut off his penis when his family refused to allow him to marry a girl from a lower class family.

The young man came from a prominent family in the southern Egyptian province of Qena, one of Egypt's poorest and most conservative areas.

That Saudi guy would have been more sensible to cut off his father's penis. What an appealing fantasy ...

We might conclude that his reason for cutting off his penis was a flawed idea to get back at his father, but I believe in cutting his penis off he prevented his father the privilege of getting him married to a woman that his father could also take sexual advantage of, which happens in that culture more times then people realize. Also, by cutting off his penis, he prevented his father from having grandchildren through him. That's the more likely scenario, but of course, if he was in mental anguish, he might have acted against himself thinking, "If I can't have her as my wife, then I don't want anyone and to prove it, I'll violate and hurt myself."

Sir, not everything is sexual, or should be viewed thus.

My point is that there would have been more justice the other way. That's what's appealing about the fantasy. Your reading something sexual into this is strange. Perhaps I'm not the one who sees too much sexuality.

Why should there even be a fantasy in the 1st place? And given I am not the one who is linking this to a fantasy per se, Sir, your weak attempts at a flip flop accusing me of seeing too much sexuality is not appreciated nor very appropriate.

I know I would have called it an alternate scenario rather than a fantasy, but what do I know, I'm the one who *cough*lookatyouravatar*cough* "sees too much sexuality" 😄

Yes, I thought my avatar was the trouble. That's why I didn't respond to your last post about love and lust. You wrote for a second time, despite my denial, that I was preoccupied with Tgirls. My first reaction was that you were being malicious, but then I remembered my avatar and understood how it must look to you. I picked that avatar because it seemed cute, funny, and sexy all at once. In EA, a reference to male genitalia seemed highly appropriate. In this specialized context, dedicated as it is to a set of issues surrounding sexuality, I feel such an erotic image has a different and more inoffensive meaning than it would elsewhere. I suppose my avatar is not subtle, but I like plain speech. Your own avatar has much to say about your own sexual journey, even if it speaks with restraint. I am not a follower of Tgirls, despite my compromising avatar.

I made a small, perhaps feeble, joke in this thread about the Saudi man and his father. Your pursuing the theme of my supposed over-sexed outlook into this thread seems to me unnecessary and unfriendly. I'm a very literary/emotional/intuitive person, and fantasy (no, not always sexual fantasy) is a way I often think about things. Fantasy is a safe way of testing possibilities, especially extreme ones. Part of intelligence and adaptability is the conception and evaluation of alternative courses of action. Fantasy is often an efficient way to do this. Fantasy is essential to creativity.

All that aside, I enjoy your use of Dr. Johnson's rhetorical device of inserting "Sir" in sentences. A nice touch.

I hope that our misunderstanding is behind us. Please be assured, Madam, of my continued regard.

It still stands that it seems highly inappropriate to use terminology such as "fantasy" in the context of such an unpleasant incident, as it is to refer to a hypothetical "what-if" scenario about the recent Haitian earthquake as a fantasy, would you not agree?

"Alternate scenario" sounds a lot more respectful, and appropriate. You, as an intelligent grown adult, so you should understand why perhaps an extra effort to avoid any possible sexual tainting of the topic by avoiding the use of ambigious terminology in discussion is only sensible and respectful to that young man.

Also, it serves no purpose to try and turn it around to accuse ME of seeing too much sexuality. It might as well have been a "yo momma" reply to a perfectly valid observation.

I rest my case.
