My blood test result (regarding my liver function)

Post by jesaispas (imported) »

Hi every body

As I am approximately for 1 months on Androcur, and the past 10 days on such a high dose of 150 mg/day. I thought its time to have my liver function checked. And by a research on the internet I found out that two enzymes called SGOT (AST) and SGPT (ALT) are responsible for liver function. These enzymes are normally contained within liver cells. If the liver is injured, the liver cells spill the enzymes into blood, raising the enzyme levels in the blood and signaling the liver damage. So I did the test without doctor supervision, When I went to get my results I was very nervous and worried. the result is:

Test --------------Result-------------Unit-------Normal Range

S.G.O.T------------28--------------Sfu/ml----------5-40

S.G.P.T-------------31-------------Sfu/ml---------- 5-40

The results were within normal range that is good. But I just don’t know how frequent I should check my liver. Since im on high dose of cyp should I do it every month or every other month or what?

150mg of androcur is not high in most cases. If you look at the leaflet that came with the drug you see that 200mg to 400mg is with in the prescribed limits. Taking the much larger dose is where problems with the liver seem to happen. I have not heard of anyone having problems taking 150mg.

The literature does suggest higher dose at first, but after awhile, a few months, start to decrease the dose by 50mg every couple of weeks or so until getting down to the lowest ongoing dose possible; maybe 50mg a day or so. If 50 turns out to be fine, try 25. If 50 is not enough try 75; goal is to use as little as possible for ongoing maintenance. Taking 200mg or 300mg for very long periods of time, like over six months or so, would not provide any additional benefit, would be costly, and could become a medical problem for some people.
