Hi everyone,
As I read the archive, which I do pretty much daily. I see a lot of people looking for a miracle. They are looking for castration, penectomy, hormones, or some combination of the three. Many see it as their saving grace. It's all they need to be happy.
The problem is, for most it is not going to happen. It's kinda like a lottery site. We have a lot of people who want to win the lottery, but only a small few will. And unfortunately, or fortunately depending on one's own point of view, we get to see a disproportionate number of lottery winners here. And it makes us believe that we must be unworthy, unlucky, or both.
Being transsexual and not being "non-op" for any medical or psychological reason, I am non-op for financial reasons. I am disabled with fibromyalgia and have not worked since 2002. I am on disability and medicare, which will not treat my gender identity disorder. So I am not seeing a gender therapist. I am not on hormones and don't see an endocrinologist. And it's likely I will not have genital reassignment surgery(GRS).
So if I stand by the transsexual mantra "transition or die", I would be forced to die. So instead I asked myself, what did transsexuals do before hormones and GRS? I mean there have always been transsexuals, but surgery and hormones have only been available in the US since the mid 70's and only a few decades before that in Europe.
So I transitioned to living my life as a woman. I have to shave my body everyday and I have to deal with having my genitals along with the masculinizing testosterone, which I find deplorable. I have a nice "comb over" for my balding spot or I wear a wig. And I can't seem to find my female voice.
But I am happier than I have ever been. I am completely out to everyone and the world. I live my life as a woman and pretty much get treated as such.
So for all of you who are waiting for some miracle doctor who is going to perform a castration or penectomy to make all your dreams come true "some day". Don't let yourself fall into the trap of only being able to be happy if you get your dream. Life is happening right now. Happiness is not something that just happens one day. It's something we must strive for. We must do the things that make us happy.
So while your waiting for your dreams to come true, don't forget to make yourself as happy as you can while you wait. It's not a dress rehearsal. You only get to do this once. Life is short.
