I'm glad they caught the little turd that did this.
This Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 picture provided by the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' shows a female cat covered in duct tape from head to toe (http://static.sdnn.com/wp-content/uploa ... t_pena.jpg) which was dumped in a yard in the Rhawnhurst section of Philadelphia, but found by the SPCA Tuesday. Medical staff at the Pennsylvania SPCA were able to successfully remove the tape. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the conviction of whoever wrapped the feline. PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Investigators say a Philadelphia teenager wrapped a cat in duct tape, put it in a shopping bag and left it in a neighbors backyard. (http://www.sdnn.com/sandiego/2009-09-28 ... -duct-tape)
The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says 19-year-old James Davis was arrested Saturday night on animal cruelty charges.
Official George Bengal says Davis admitted to taping up the cat from neck to tail after he spotted it in his yard Sept. 21.
The gray tabby was nicknamed Sticky by animal welfare workers. It was dehydrated and had to be sedated while the tape was cut off its fur.
Animal welfare workers are still looking for Stickys owner.
Davis faces up to two years in prison and a minimum $1,000 fine if convicted.
A phone number for Davis could not immediately be located. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

I don't know. I guess some people just lack a basic sense of empathy. I hope this kid gets the help he needs to become a better person. My guess is prison life will not improve his odds of becoming an asset to society and may only make him worse. On the other hand at least he won't be harming other animals for a while.

I hope he gets a psych consult while he is serving time. If he enjoyed taping a cat which I can imagine would not be an easy thing to do his future is not bright. Do we have a future serial killer in our midst? They usually begin their life of criminal behavior with the torturing of animals and then turn their interest to humans. We have too many folks without a conscience.

personally I think his punishment should not be prison, I think a couple rolls of duck tape applied to this young man may make a lasting impression as its pulled off along with his body hair. I think the only thing not taped should be eyes, and nose, you must be able to see and breath, other then that it should not take him more then a day or two to get it off his fingers and hands so he can get it off his face to drink and eat.
They will never do it of course, that would be cruel and unusual punishment.
Maybe 1000 hours of community service in the local animal shelter would be fitting.

wouldn't a good body soak in hot to warm water loosen up the adhesive enough to easily pull the tape off without pain?

I feel this young man needs serious help as many who hert these animals go on the hert people.I also feel director Polanski needs to be sent to jail because what this man did to that young girl was even worse then what happened to that poor cat.

Make him do community service at a cat rescue shelter.
Let the punishment fit the crime.

I believe he did do some jail time and had an agreement with the court then the judge changed his mind and went back on the deal. That in its self changes everything, also I may add that he did pay the girl a sum of money. It does not excuse him from the crime but it does no good to come after him at this late date either.
This whole thing is wrong at many levels.

Reprehensible as what Polanski did, the girl's real exploiters were her family who knowingly put her out there. That being said, in a 3-way among Polanski's attorney, they girl's attorney, and the prosecutor, a deal was made, and the judge's preemptory decision to ignore the arrangement under purely political pressures taints the whole thing; when Mr. Polanski was nominated for an Oscar recently, the "victim" wrote an article for the LA Times in which she stated that she hoped that Mr. Polanski's film would be judged on its own merits and not in regards to that incident. She also stated that the deal that was struck in which she was represented by counsel during the plea bargaining was a fair one and should have been honored by the judge. She seemed to regard the judge with greater animus than Mr. Polanski. His meddling has kept the case open for what has it been, 40 years?
