Basically, mornong wood serves as an "stretching" exercise for the penis. That´s the main reason why eunuch that are not on HRT have a shrunken penis. Also, some substances produced by your brain, called neurotransmiters, are able to cause you erections. Parasympatic or sympatic stimulation (tha same sort of stimuli when you are stresed or in a very pretty much calm state) can induce long-lasting erections, specially during sleep and even more if you are dreaming.
