ughter is fully capable of taking care of herself. She's also young and attractive. And being chased by too many guys for old farts like you and I to have any chance....

When I first read the above headline, my immediate thought was that maybe the principal was pimping out his students. Huh! Funny how the brain works (or how MY brain works, anyway). I live in a medium-sized college town with a state university, and one sleepy morning I was reading the local newspaper (back before we relied on the Internet for our news) and during my first cup of coffee and reading on page A-5, I read the following headline:
"27,000 Students Die At The Univerisity Today" ...
...and I passed over the article and went on to other pages. Then it dawned on me what I had just read...."27,000 students die at the universtiy today"??
I turned back and now the headline read "27,000 Students Due At The University Today".
Says me: "Oh, that's different...never mind." I think there was a part of me that might have thought "Good, serves them right" but I was too sleepy to register the thought fully. Students around here cause much more than their share of trouble, and maybe it was just wishful thinking... I don't know, it's hard to tell. Or maybe I just have a twisted sense of humor.
