Your post is / has not been taken the wrong way:)
My friend is a qualified consultant urologist and surgeon specializing in urology. I could ask him all these questions and will when I next meet him, but the way in which I'm approaching this is... well... me. I like to have as much information as possible before having any surgery or even before I go to the dentist for root canal.
He has done the procedure a few times (5 I think he said) and the only complication he's had was the stitches coming loose on one of the procedures he did; he know uses staples. He has had no infections, no significant loss of blood and no other complciations.
As for being able to read everything I am asking... sorry for being lazy

Sorry Zac, but the way you started the thread led most people on the board (including me) to the conclusion that you were using someone that may not be a doctor/surgeon.
Good luck with your surgery and I'm sure we all wish you a speedy recovery and a happy outcome.

What do I need to do after the procedure etc.
”
Follow hi post-op instructions
Generally
Try to stay off your feet for 3 to 4 weeks depending on what your dr. tells you
Keep your legs elevated above your waist during this time
Put ice on the wound to help with pain and swelling
Keep the wound clean , dry do not cross your legs or feet to keep from getting blood clots
Clean the wound and Change the dressing 3 to 4 times a day depending on what your dr. tells you
It helps to use an athletic support ( jock strap ) to help keep gauze in place while walking . when you have to get up and walk around go to the bath room
Ect while the stitches are in depending what your dr. tells you
If you see an unusual amount of bright red blood any time after you get home
Get to the ER or call an ambulance
If you get a fever , swelling with redness and unusual stench smell with
An increase in drainage get to a DR.
This should do for now unless you can help me think of other things
These are some of the things I did It is not medical advice

Get a bone density scan done to establish a baseline.
If you are not taking chemical castration meds, get blood tests done to measure hormone levels.
If you plan on using any form of HRT afterwards, start looking for a good endocrinologist.
If you don't plan on using HRT, make sure you are fully aware of the potential side effects of castration. This thread (
http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=4616), as well as this thread (
http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=4608), are both good reading in this area. I'm not trying to discourage you, but inform you of what to watch out for in the years to come.

Even if you don't PLAN on taking HRT, you should get a baseline hormone test since MANY end up on HRT later.

Excellent advice. I never did learn my testosterone levels prior to castration. I assume they were high given my sexual compulsions, but now I'll never know. Listen to Ramses.

HI,
I read somewhere her about how basic a note can be from a "shrink" to facilitate castration with certain urologists. Can anyone point me there?
Does anyone know if a regular (non-urologist) surgeon can perform castrations. Has anyone ever heard of this?
